Maybe I am the only one but maybe not
Do you ever talk to yourself?

yggdrasil Sat 10-Sept-16 10:15:11

I got into the habit when talking to the baby in the pram, then the toddler in the pushchair, then the child holding my hand. I only have a shopping trolley now but I still talk to it :-)

BPJ Sat 10-Sept-16 10:14:46

Quite often when I need expert advice LOL

Gaggi3 Sat 10-Sept-16 10:11:26

All the time! I get a very good quality of conversation that way!

Ilrina Sat 10-Sept-16 10:10:46

Yes I talk to myself, and to household appliances, and to the green man hanging on the wall outside smile

oznan Sat 10-Sept-16 10:00:01

I talk to myself all the time, even when I am out and about on my mobility scooter(usually things like "which idiot has parked across this ramp!").People do sometimes give me strange looks but it doesn't bother me.I also talk to my dog a lot and when I asked my daughter if she thinks that means I am barmy, she said "not unless the dog answers back."

Like LullyDully I encourage myself - out loud. I also give myself instructions - out loud. I find it motivating. Have found myself doing it in a whisper in public. Wish I could encourage myself not to procrastinate. I can do that to Olympic standard. I shall try "do it NOW" in a loud voice.

Within the confines of my own home, constantly.....would be a bit worried if I did it in public though!

LullyDully Sat 10-Sept-16 08:15:07

All.the time. If I am feeling particularly bad with my arthritis I say ".come on Granny or.come on Mrs T you can do it." Surely everyone talk to themselves, only way to get the right answer.

BlueBelle Sat 10-Sept-16 03:36:33

Oh doing it your head is normal that's part of living, thinking, being, its the out loud or even out soft that is the definition here

notnecessarilywiser Sat 10-Sept-16 01:01:18

Similar to NonnaW - I frequently talk to myself and if anyone has the temerity to remark on it I tell them I get a much better class of conversation when doing so!

It turns out the Great British moggie is a master of disguise! grin

Ana Fri 09-Sept-16 22:52:39

Glad it's not just me who doesn't actually do it out loud, roses...

rosesarered Fri 09-Sept-16 22:30:09

Not out loud, but we all do in our headas, don't we? Don't we?!
Once told the cat to get off the bed ( not allowed) and it turned out to be my woolly Winter hat.

Talking to your handbag Maggie, that made me laugh out loud. I have very one sided conversations with my cat and dog and sometimes the other half. Its when I get the strange looks in the supermarket that I get worried as I realise I am doing it again!grin grin grin

Crafting Fri 09-Sept-16 19:55:32

Yup. Me too. Me, myself and I often have a reply good chat grin

Badenkate Fri 09-Sept-16 18:59:43

Often. Lots of times it's the only way to have a sensible conversation

morethan2 Fri 09-Sept-16 18:31:22

Not the only one

morethan2 Fri 09-Sept-16 18:29:52

Yes I do. I hope I don't do it in public though. It's how I sort things out in my head and control my worries. I sort of thought we all did it to some degree. I also purposely daydream to cheer myself up.i have favourite scenarios in my head that I return to on a regular basis. Oh dear hope I'm the only one.

nanaK54 Fri 09-Sept-16 18:24:27

Oh yes

nancyma Fri 09-Sept-16 18:22:23

Of course I do and I have intense discussions with my dogs and they completely understand my point of view and agree wholeheartedly with me; the cat, however, is another story !

PRINTMISS Fri 09-Sept-16 18:15:00

It often appears these days, that people are talking to themselves, but they are of course on the mobile, or whatever it is they have glued to their ears. Walking through town today, I suddenly realised that if I talked out loud to myself, no one would take any notice, was quite relieved, because it is something I do.

numberplease Fri 09-Sept-16 18:11:22

Talking to yourself is the only way to get a decent answer.

cornergran Fri 09-Sept-16 17:30:32

All the time. The computer even has a name! When she caught anyone talking to themselves a colleague used to say 'ah but you couldn't wish to talk to a better person' smile. Always done it and doubtlessly always will.

Greyduster Fri 09-Sept-16 16:49:26

I only talk to myself when I'm fishing - mostly it is unprintable. There is nothing good to say when you are casting into a wind and forty seven feet of fly line lands in a heap on top of your head because your timing has gone down the pan! Sometimes I talk to the fish. One day one of them is going to talk back! I am very close to that delusion......
