During the last week

cleaned my granddaughters bedroom she gave it a good clear out I vacuumed. Back to school on Wednesday.
Visit to my friend lost her partner 5 weeks ago so had a catch up.
Dentist, hairdressers, shopping ironing.
Walk around oxlea woods,

Visited a friend four years younger than I am who wasn't very well - and stayed while she died. Pissed off her estranged daughter who was quite angry she hadn't been invited, so called me a thief and had me thrown in jail. Oh, and a few other things that no longer seem so important.

Thank you for your kind words. I sort of regretted my posting just after I did it so I didn't check replies for a few days but it has made me feel so much better to know that there are others out there who understand. Thanks again.

I have been sorting through 25 years of happy memories and packing up my craft room, preparing to move to Germany later this month to be near my son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. So excited! And saying goodbye to friends...not so exciting, but at least it's only a short hop for visits.

hello I am a granddad and look after my granddaughter and after a 7 year illness buried my 96 year old mother in law who was like a mum to me.I need a break preferably in London and in a flat with 2 bedrooms as I am a shocking snorer.Or in the right circumstances a hotel .thanks.

I can hardly remember what I have done from one day to the next!

All I can remember is

Took a bag of unwanted stuff to the charity shop

Reserved a book for the book club

Returned a top and bought a new frying pan on Tuesday to replace one that's no longer non-stick

Read an incomprehensible insurance policy on Thursday that relates to some litigation I'm indirectly involved in

Weeded and dug over a soil strip on the driveway

That's 5 things - an average of one per day this week!

You ladies put me to shame.

Drove from home in Scotland to DD1 in Wiltshire;
Acquired a virus and had to see local GP. Too dizzy and headachy to drive;
Sat on my bottom for 3 days waiting for dizziness to subside;
Drove, with trepidation, to DD3 in Berkshire;
Did 4 days, 3x a day, school drop and pickups;
(Eternally grateful I am not a 'Mummy'any more);
Shopped for England ready for DGD's birthday party;
Discovered that I can live in more or less the same clothes for a week without having to use a washing machine ;
Baby sat and watched '45 Years' on Netflix;
Discovered Netflix!

Went back to my Pilates class after the summer break.
Took a big bag of clothes to a charity shop and ended up browsing every charity shop in the street.
Looked on-line for knitting patterns and downloaded a keyhole scarf one. I'm going to knit a load of them for Xmas gifts.
Went to look after my 4 year old granddaughter last night. Made her tea, played in the street with her, bathed her, put her to bed, and read a story. She was still up when mum and dad came back. I must have gone wrong somewhere!
Today set off to have a days shopping in Larne. The rain came on heavily, so compromised and stopped at a small town. Ended up in the Pound shop, which I could have done at home!

I write down what I do daily in a small diary because I can't bear the thought of wasting any time so I'll consult it (nice thread)
Taken my youngest son to the airport at 5am
Big supermarket shop, cleaning, washing, bed making, in readiness for eldest son arriving with wife and three children for a week.
Taken the dog to the vet
Treated my friend to lunch
Attended a full governors meeting and a pupil discipline meeting
Water- colour painting class
Lots of writing, in particular tweeting my objections to grammar schools
I missed the book club because I wanted to watch Cold Feet!

What an energetic lot you are ...
In the last week I have
done the usual keeping -the -house- ticking- over tasks .
Been to a work reunion lunch with DH(I chauffered. Bit tedious )
Done 3 solid days worth of gardening-cutting back,simplifying ,sorting out hanging baskets for winter
Taken the resulting garden waste to tip (far to much for bin .two trips )
Visited not terribly local garden centre to get plants for above (extraordinarily cheap so worth the 20min drive )
En route to garden centre stopped off in local posh town and found a hat for upcoming wedding in a vintage shop
Discovered same shop sells Annie Sloan paint so bought sample to try out on garden furniture which DD1is having
Had lunch with retired staff group and organised Christmas Lunch for same
Booked flights for holiday DD2 and I are doing late this year (country DH doesn't want to visit)
Done 5 mile walk with U3a followed by pub lunch
Had 4 friends round for the evening Did baking for same and some batch cooking for freezer
Went to first choir rehearsal of new term
Read two books ,one for book club
Took cat to vet for teeth removal And paid huge bill
Had new garage door installed
Lost 1 .25 lbs (not surprised...)

...And I thought I'd had a quiet week

Sold a couple of things on eBay.
Bought a chest of drawers on Amazon and it arrived 3 days later.
Had hospital appointment,- pre operation assessment for my knee replacement which I hope will be soon.
Son visited and fixed my kitchen cupboard door which had
dropped off. And fixed garage fascia which was falling off.
Found new gardener who is coming here today to give me an estimate.
Had brief walk and coffee with my keep fit friends (we don't do keep fit any more as our teacher died).
Tonight I am baby sitting with my two younger grandchildren.

Been not Benn (I don't think he was there!)

Celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary
Been on a UK break for 3 nights with DH
Met a friend for a lovely lunch
Benn to the theatre to see Sunny Afternoon (what a show!)

I've hardly done anything all week! I've walked my dog and shopped but I'm shocked by how inactive I've been ? Now that the school term has started, at least I'll be back to regular karate classes.

Your right Tegan but the only other option is a possible estrangement and could you live with that? It's hard I know. I think the only thing you can do is develop a tough skin. You don't need to change who you are, just how you manage the relationship. That's probably not helpful. I wish I had the answer.

This is the third time it's happened though. And I was being so careful not to ever 'say the wrong thing'. You shouldn't have to be so careful in a relationship with someone .

Tegan, some years ago now, our DS2 fell out with us. We were devastated. We stepped back but still kept in touch, still being ourselves as though nothing was amiss. Things are heaps better now. Turns out he was going through a bad patch and took it out on us. Don't give up being yourself. Head down and carry on! But do keep in touch.

I did the same at my MiL house this time last year. It made me feel as if I'd violated her trust in me. It was truly horrible. If she knew she'd never ever forgive me. Ever

Liz08 that is such a difficult job. I had to do a similar task when my father died. It was the throwing away of stuff I found so upsetting, all the little items that were an integral part of the weave our family life but had no intrinsic worth at all outside that.

Yesterday I had to tell my 94 year old Dad that he has to stay in a Care Home for the rest of his life..... I didn't put it quite that bluntly, but that's the bottom line. Today started the mammoth job of clearing out decades of stuff from his and my lovely late mother's house to pay for it. I wasted too much time looking at old photos so I stopped wearing my reading glasses and put the photos straight in boxes to be sorted 'someday'. There are no emojis to cover how I feel.

Today my husband cleaned the oven. It's all sparkly. Better than flowers.

Tegan here's some but hang in there I'm often a little hurt by my children/DiL so I just back off a little, put the ball in their court and let them do the running. I just pretend that every thing is ok and wait to be approached. Somtimes you can't do right what ever you do. I hope ( am sure things will sort themselves soon enough) big big sigh and shrug emotion. Still very upsetting though

Also went to see The Entertainer - brilliant. If anyone fancies seeing it (at much less cost!) it will be broadcast live to cinemas on October 27th...
Went to see solicitor about inheritance tax planning
Took DH to hospital for lung function tests prior to hospitalisation next week (which I am dreading - high dose chemo followed by stem cell transplant)
Met a friend for lunch in Hungerford;
Visited a lovely nursery on the way back and bought some plants and compost for a friend's school playground.
Next day planted the above in four planters.
Thursday went to Safeguarding (children) seminar wearing my school governor's hat.
Returned to the nursery for more compost and more plants and planted up three remaining planters in the playground.
Saturday visited some of our young in Hertford.
Went to church and then to celebrate nephew passing his accountancy finals with a lovely big family lunch.
In between I attacked the new allotment to remove some of the forest of weeds - upside is I inherited a load of fruiting raspberry canes, yum!
Am very lucky I know.

Celebrated grandson's 10th birthday with fish & chips in the garden
Looked after grandson & granddaughter for a day, played killer scrabble and made drop scones
Went to see Kenneth Branagh in "The Entertainer"
Went to the funeral of a dear neighbour who died at the stupid age of 50

Visited the Green Party Conference, met many thoughtful caring people, including a Mohicaned poet.
Went to the opening of a lovely exhibition of vibrant Mango Mosaics, glowing panels of Indian goddesses ingeniously crafted from discarded '70s china.
Took some books from my overcrowded shelves to a Little Library and a poetry cafe.
Realised I'll see my smaller GC less often now they've relocated to Norwich, a city I've always intended visiting!
Freecycled a 6' Christmas tree.
Cut far too much off my ornamental cherry tree.
Made 'Chinese seaweed' from Kale.
Emailed a councillor about a road which is dangerous to pedestrians - and received a VERY rapid positive response.
Found M&S boat shoes to be extremely comfortable.
Heard DD had spent a night counting hedgehogs under bushes in Hyde Park!
Watched 2 episodes of 'Victoria' and one of 'Cold Feet' and became hooked on both.
Heard a fascinating R4 programme which explored the differing accents on a train travelling from Aberdeen to Penzance.
Enjoyed my first balti for years and goggled to see a naan bread the size of a cot blanket!
That was my week that was!
