Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Well done, jogging, I was going to volunteer at ours but we are so busy I decided I couldn't quarantee to be available.

I am going to do my first stint as a CrISP volunteer this week. Hopefully it will help lots of people as they start this awful journey.

It was a great experience kitty - lots of families and dogs - a very supportive and warm group of people. The 10k went so quickly and even the 7-year-old diva 2 managed it without fuss ?

I went to visit my mum afterwards and told her all about it - she smiled a lot and liked the shiny medal ... bless her ❤️

It's a series of 4 talks to the relatives of newly diagnosed Alzeimer's sufferers giving them info about what to expect in the future and how to manage.

I thought there was. I think it's nationwide. jogging's like was to Ireland. It's very new I think.

When I googled it - the replies were location specific ... what area are you in kitty ...?

Incidentally, what a brilliant idea kitty - I was lost when my mum was first diagnosed - I have learned such a lot along the way. How awesome to have someone to help you through those early stages.... well done you xx

I should have said that the aim is for it to be nationwide. I'm in Leicestershire.

Having been shocked by the number of relatively young people (70ish - our age-ish) with a diagnosis, I decided to see if there was anything that I could do to 'help'. I will only be helping - tea and a listening ear. Someone who knows what they are doing will actually be delivering the talks! I am also going to be helping at a 7 week course for people who have been newly diagnosed themselves. That could be quite emotional.

Well done kitty what a great way of helping. A listening ear is exactly what is needed - especially one with experience of Alzheimer's. I wish you well with your 7-week course and would love to hear more about it and how you get on with it. I am going to investigate my area and see if there is something I can do as well.

Hi, jg, that was a really good amount which would be massive if replicated each time. Our walk is in October on the same day as our youngest granddaughter 's birthday so I am unable to join that.

I helped at my first CrISP session last week with 3 more to come in this course, and felt it was a really good initiative. We had 14 participants and they all seemed to be happy to chat amongst themselves. I imagine the following weeks will be much more emotive.

I'd love to know if you do find something you are able to do.
