Wonderful Cities of the World

Like Pollyperkins, I love Vienna too - the edgy Harry Lime Sewer Tour is a must, a ride on the Prater Big Wheel, plus the lounging chairs in the Museum Quarter that encourage you to lie down and sky-gaze. And of course the cake ....

I don't like Paris much but love Amsterdam, Bruges, Munich, San Diego, Sydney, Glasgow, Brighton, Oxford, Winchester and my born-and-bred city, London.

Posts on here have got me enthusing about a trip to Cardiff, it sounds brilliant!

Ive been to most of those mentioned but notBerlin. Dubrovnic is great too. And Budapest.

I'm very lucky to live in Paris, though I hate the dog mess. As for the UK, one of the best kept secrets has to be Cardiff, a beautiful, buzzing, city of cultural delights. Internationally, I'd find it hard to improve on Sydney, which is simply breathtaking and where the coffee is the best I've ever tasted (unlike Paris where other than espresso they haven't a clue!).

I'd forgotten about St Petersburg. I stayed there for a month in the early 70s when it was Leningrad and full of drunks. You'd to queue up with the babushkas for hours for fresh fruit, but vodka and Russian champagne flowed freely. Beautiful buildings though. I'd love to go back and see how it's changed.

I like a lot of cities in the UK, including: London, Cambridge, Wells, Brighton, Truro, Edinburgh, Salisbury, Cardiff. I've never been to Newcastle, Shrewsbury or St David's, and hope to get around to visiting them one day. I think the UK has some wonderful towns and cities.

I haven't been to that many cities abroad. I really liked Dubrovnik and Granada. I quite liked Paris and Barcelona. I didn't like New York or Orlando.

I would like to go to Lisbon, Bruges and Prague.

Los Angeles. Fascinatingly strange and soulless, with stunning coastline.

St Petesburg. Beautiful - Hermitage is fantastic, particularly the Monets.

Rio. Just stunning.

New York. 'nuff said.

I love London. In general I prefer coastal cities. Liverpool is great. Cardiff is quite little and friendly; Swansea is a mix of downbeat and picturesque. Bristol is edgier.

Current favourite UK city -Brighton! Edgy, vibrant, bonkers, decadent, wealthy, poor. Never dull.

I really don't see the attraction of cities and positively dislike London.

I liked Venice, Bath and Havana; though for short periods of time only.

Rome, Lisbon, Helsinki, Stockholm, Boston, Wells, Glasgow, Lincoln...to name just a few of my favourites

Near to home, Amsterdam but the one place I keep going back to is Luang Prabang in Laos, every year. Beautiful old colonial buildings built by the French with a large amount of Lao temples and orange robed monks. It's also very safe and on two rivers. Love it.

I loved Rome and Florence here I like York Leeds

Venice every time, but preferably in winter so we don't have to queue for everything.

My heart belongs to London. When I get on the train and make that 4 hour journey I know I am going to have a wonderful weekend. I don't mind if I am revisiting places i have been to many times before or, discovering somewhere new, I just love London

When we lived in Holland, we went to Liege a couple of times - once by boat from Maastricht - and I absolutely loved Liege. A fascinating mix of old and modern with the biggest outdoor market I've ever seen, where you could buy just about anything. I also like Amsterdam, Cologne, Granada, Cambridge, York, and the smallest city in Britain, St. David's!

It's got to be Venice, the most beautiful city in the world

We loved Krakow (I was there in February, wrapped in pretend furs), so I'm hoping it's similar.

I love to visit Cities. Difficult to choose favourite.

Budapest is a great City to walk around, love Paris and London too,
and Naples floats my boat, but probably only in daylight hours!

We're going to Gdansk in a couple of weeks time, Granjen, so I'm pleased to see the endorsement! Any must sees?

Love some of the polish cities - Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw. Incredibly rebuilt after being devastated during the war.

My son's in Dubrovnic at the moment [honeymoon]. I do feel that he should have taken me with him though, as I wanted to see the Game of Thrones locations there....

I absolutely loved Dubrovnic. Full of narrow winding streets and interesting markets. In the uk I think York is my favourite.

Copenhagen is worth a visit as is Bergen in Norway. London is great and has smartened up a lot in recent years.

Chester for it`s city walls and cathedral.
York, again for the city walls and the Minster.
Plymouth for the shopping centre and waterfront.

Like others have mentioned Savannah is really lovely, beautiful squares, very historic. Loved Barcelona, Rome - my friend lived there for years, so I visited often. Seville - I had a short break in the Hague as my stepmother had been brought up there - loved it, the people so friendly. I was brought up in London, but now I am retired I often go up and get buses all around - feel like a tourist! Go to places I remember from my youth, which of course have all changed! but also go to places I have never been before. Having been to quite a few cities, London is definately the largest. I have been wanting to visit Prague for quite a while, will get there.

This is so hard there are too many. For my 60th, a couple of years ago we visited Argentina, I just loved Buenos Aires exceeded expectations. I also feel very lucky to have visited America quite a few times, really liked Charleston and Savannah more than the larger more obvious cities, although I remember being knocked out by New York first time I went there but less so the second time, really liked Los Angeles, inspite of everyone telling us to give it a miss. Boston didn't live up to expectations for me. The Latin side of me has drawn me to Italy many times over the years, rather than colder northern Europe. Italy for me has always been the most beautiful, albeit chaotic of European countries, amazing cities too hard to select one, I have been lucky enough to holiday in Rome, Florence, Genoa, Sienna, Padua, Verona and Venice, failing to appreciate the latter at 21, fell in love with it a couple of years ago, I guess it's a grown up place. I never fell in love with Paris I prefer some of the smaller regional cities of France such as Lyon, Bordeaux, Blois, Nice, Rouen. Haven't been to Melbourne or Sydney but liked Perth along with Vancouver Canada, New world cities have a different sort of excitement to those with centuries of history. I haven't done Scandi or German cities but hope to rectify that. Visited Dublin two years running in December I love it there particularly in the Christmas run up. Finally, can't fail to mention London on my door step, for all it's dowsides, I think it's a wonderful world class city.
