Having completely demotivated day

DH is out for the day until late evening and I've been looking forward to having the house to myself. Great plans to catch up on panto music, calls and my cross stitch.....what have I done? Very little is the answer, haven't even got housework finished. Dishwasher is sitting half stacked with door ajar and bed is only just made. I keep starting and stopping, check out GN, FB, email, do a bit of browsing then make myself have another few productive minutes! I'm wasting my precious day ...,, now it's lunchtime. Get a grip, woman.

I'm having one of those today. I had a list of things to do and realised this morning that I don't have any energy today and just don't want to. So I didn't.

What fun to read all these posts.
Just having another cup of coffee then me and do will get together to formulate a plan.......

Aha.....light is dawning! Just received my blood tests back and I'm anaemic. Now I have a legitimate reason for being sluggish all my guilt has evaporated! On iron replacement once I collect prescription tomorrow, deep joy I don't think. It plays havoc with my insides. Now what can I legitimately not do tomorrow......hmm?

I read somewhere that 'time you enjoy wasting is not wasted'. On the other hand, Charlie Chaplin said 'a day without laughter is a day wasted'. So just make sure you laugh and everything is OK.

I too wonder why we feel guilty when we're not doing somthing. When I retire I hope I can spend loads of time doing nothing useful. I hope I can read books, potter, stroll where I want. It's my ambition to do sweet-- feck--bugger all. Oh lovely. Enjoy while you can.

I get days like that I think I will such and such and end up just putting my feet up and reading or watching the television or on line. But today I have just cleared my drawer in the bedroom of all the old t shirts and old bits and bobs. Yesterday I cleared out the larder and tidied it up. Now I am having a nice cuppa. Did find a letter that my daughter sent to her dad when she was little, so sweet

Ha ha join the inert crew. I'm much like that myself today - I call them cricket days because the OH can easily spend all day watching the cricket on TV (boooooring) without any guilt , but I always feel guilty. When I worked full time I never felt any guilt of a lazy Sunday but now I have the opportunity of lots of lazy days the guilt kicks in. Motivation disappears because I know I can do it tomorrow instead do less gets done. What a contrary being!

Been thinking about doing the ironing for days - cba. Made a list this morning and have managed possibly half of it - but ironing still waits. Just not in the mood. One of the bonuses of retirement is Mañana.

I have lots of full days on my own, and can waste time like a Trojan. But you can bet if I see DH's van driving up he will find me just in the middle of something very busy and housework, lol.

Haha, you make me feel so much better. I have days like that all the time when I'm not working (I only work about 8 months of the year, part time). Today I'm feeling smug because I actually found some motivation and am getting quite a lot done, probably because circumstances have given me a kick up the backside. Anyway, how does the poem go, "What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare". I think I'll make that my mantra.

Craftycat Thu 01-Sept-16 12:50:35

Absolutely- just enjoy it- all the work will still be there when you feel like doing it.
It is an agreed rule in this house that if the sun is shining I will be in the back garden on a sunbed reading a good book (on Kindle these days)!
I cannot bear to be out of the sun & I don't want to work in the garden when it is so hot. I have been like this ever since I was 16 & studying for O levels.I read every one of the James Bond novels that summer- I did pass a few exams too but I knew every villian that 007 came up against. My tastes have improved with time I hasten to add but I still need to be in the sun- I think I am solar powered!

grannypiper Thu 01-Sept-16 11:48:57

Katek, you are allowed, so just enjoy it

Lupatria Thu 01-Sept-16 11:42:46

what a lovely day!! mind you i seem to have those quite a lot lately especially with my grandaughters on school holiday [they live with me].
just listen to your body and take things easy - there's nothing which absolutely NEEDS to be done. tomorrow is another day and you can do it then!!

sue01 Thu 01-Sept-16 11:39:59

Those are what I call pottering days - and I find it hugely therapeutic wandering from one job to another... not exactly getting them done... but at least checking their progress !

loopylou Thu 01-Sept-16 10:39:57

I'm having a 'Me Day' too?, because DH is getting on my nerves (he's self-employed, supposedly booked the month off so 'we can do lots of things'and is mooching around moaning) ?
I've done a bit of pottering in the garden, just made a cup of coffee and vaguely considering sitting outside in the sun with the paper.
I might do a bit of gardening..... Or not ?

Christinefrance Thu 01-Sept-16 10:31:36

Think women must have a guilt gene , why do we feel we must be working all the time.
I must get off GN and do the pile of ironing.
Enjoy your day Katek .

Katek Thu 01-Sept-16 10:14:57

I think my day 'off' yesterday day has done me good-feel much more energised today!!
I find it very hard not to feel guilty if I'm not achieving, conditioning I suppose. I shall have to retrain myself!

BlueBelle Thu 01-Sept-16 06:21:29

Shysal I thought I d written your post

I had the luxury of an afternoon like that on Saturday when DH and DS went off to footie. Had planned to do all sorts and then sat in a chair and read a book all afternoon. Did I feel I'd frittered away my time? Not a bit of it!

Stansgran Wed 31-Aug-16 19:39:03

Yes I feel tired looking at it now but no sewing and very little cooking tonight . Nothing really taxing.

FarNorth Wed 31-Aug-16 19:06:35

That sounds frantic not inert, Stansgran.

Jalima Wed 31-Aug-16 18:45:55

Oh, and had a couple of nice long chats on the phone with friends smile

Jalima Wed 31-Aug-16 18:45:19

I feel much better now; have done quite a few things today (a bit of washing, a bit of cleaning, a bit of gardening, but not a lot) but have also dipped in and out of FB and GN and sat outside in the sunshine reading for an hour and a half this afternoon.

Stansgran Wed 31-Aug-16 18:15:06

I was almost inert today but I did sort and put away DH's socks and grundies, folded sheets and towels, order a window vac and toaster from Bainbridge, write a birthday card, book a lunch for Friday, email friend to say when and where,Hoover the contents of the shredder that someone had knocked over and not mentioned, brought in the recycling bin, prepared veg for tonight, did the sudoku in the Times and made two pots of tea. Otherwise inertia rules.

shysal Wed 31-Aug-16 17:54:08

That sounds like every day of my life! Being divorced and retired means that I do what I want when I want or nothing at all, and am answerable to nobody. I don't feel I would ever want to share my home again.
Enjoy your freedom, Katek and don't feel guilty for a moment. sunshine
