Did you eat coal?

I lived in Germany for 2 pregnancies, I lived on paprika crisps, oranges (which I don't like at all) and homemade bread and butter pudding! I expected lovely red haired babies! No, both dark hair.

Nothing with the first two pregnancies but in the third I had an aversion to any form of carbohydrates such as potatoes, bread, pasta, cakes, semolina (which I normally love) and cereals.

Result - Constipation. Which I only had during that pregnancy. No wonder - lack of fibre.

My least favourite fruit was a banana but when I was expecting my son I couldn't get enough of them & he loves them. I couldn't eat one when I was pregnant with my daughter 2 years later & she hates them

I did have cravings to lick coal and soil in pregnancy, and even when not pregnant sometimes. Then I read that doing that can be related to being anaemic which makes sense as that is something I've suffered from for years. Coal - yummy!

Dairylea cheese triangles with first born & Cadburys milk chocolate with 2nd. Looking back I think I was just indulging my love of cheese & chocolate & had an excuse . Dairylea very easy to pop in handbag to take to work.
Never played Scrabble since as I was pregnant during Miner's strike so no electricity some days so we sat & played travel scrabble by candlelight in evenings- DH was on 3 day week.

Jif lemon juice with DD1. It started with the little squeezy lemons, but when I got up to four a day I moved onto the bottles, and would need two a day. It was so embarrassing that I used to wrap them in paper bags when out and about. Once on a long train journey I noticed an older lady staring at me with absolute contempt as I chugged away furtively from my concealed bottle, about eight months gone. DD1 had citrus intolerance for many years, related or not I don't know, but fortunately she grew out of it.

With the other two, Mars Bars, but it might have been more an excuse than a craving

Chinese food for the first and steak for the second - interesting to me I must have needed the vitamins and minerals in those foods? Both fully cooked at 36 weeks -Second was born on a full moon, 4 weeks early, any comments?

I was in hospital for bed rest prior to having my son and really wanted advocaat so phoned hubby and asked him to bring me a snowball. He arrived that night with a paper bag and said sorry I couldn't get a snowball so brought you a meringue!

Before I knew I was pregnant, I went off all alcohol. I couldn't even be in the same room if someone opened a bottle of wine, my sense of smell was so heightened.

I craved chocolate, of any sort and mandarin/ satsuma oranges. The smell of cheese and flowers really made me nauseous.

I mentioned before that I knew I was pregnant when I went off coffee and even the smell (which normally I love) made me nauseous.

When pregnant with DS I craved meat, specifically beef either roast or steak. I would buy 4oz cooked sliced beef and eat it out of the wrapping paper. DS weighed 8lb7oz.

In my DD pregnancy it was oranges, even though I have never really cared for them. I used to search the market for those big juicy Jaffa oranges that we don't seem to see these days. I put them on top of the gas fire surround to warm through which made them extra juicy.DD weighed 7lb13oz. Was she missing the beef?

Eating anything sour, e.g. cooking apples or lemons during first pregnancy. Drinking just a mouthful of beer as soon as I got up on a morning with third. Nothing I can remember with second. Stirring gravy in the pan or roasting tin made me so nauseous that poor DLH had to make it or suffer 'dry' dinners. Stirring anything else, such as custard had no effect.

Crisp green apples for me. I really craved them. I think my body was telling me I needed the vitamins. I've hardly eaten an apple since.

I craved Creme Eggs and could not drink coffee,eat onions or eggs.Still cannot eat eggs or drink coffee other than milky cappuccino.A friend of mine not only went off meat,she could not bear to look at it or handle it,so her disgruntled hubby became an enforced vegetarian for 9 months.
My dear grandmother developed a craving for rhubarb while expecting my mother.She told me that once,she woke in the middle of the night with this craving.My grandfather got out of bed,cycled to his allotment to dig some up and brought it back to her.True love and devotion!

Lime pickle and marmite ( not necessarily at the same time!).

mashed potatoes and cooked frozen peas for every meal for the first couple of months!!! Went totally off coffee but my beloved tea was ok thank goodness !

The only time I've ever drunk tea was when I was pregnant. Can't stand even the smell of the stuff normally. I drink coffee - but couldn't face it when pregnant. Craved lemonade and processed marrow fat peas.

Mine was cleaning products of all kinds but especially bleach, shoe polish and Vim (didn't eat them)- still love the smell of all cleaning things and marker pens. Hate Vinegar and all things mint - I threw up all day everyday when I was pregnant and these things set me off- have never like them since and could vomit just thinking of them.

No cravings but went right off tea and I love it normally. Soon as morning sickness went at about 3 months I could enjoy it again. Same for second daughter but not for son 11 years later.

No cravings with first son or first daughter. Second son and second daughter I craved tomato sandwiches (no salt) and the smell of Dettol. I cleaned everywhere with it and would take the top off just to smell it! Both went as soon as the babies were born. The Dettol caused many hilarious comments from friends as you can imagine.
My mother told me she craved Custard Creams, when I was born they were still difficult to find after the war, my poor dad covered miles to find them for her.

I loved the smell of coal in the coal-house (never felt tempted to eat it though!) and the smell of tar being spread in the car park of a garden centre near here. Lovely.................

I went off coffee completely, but drank bottles of full sugar Coca Cola (which I don't usually touch). The strange thing is that I didn't put on any weight during either of my pregnancies and ended up two stone lighter after each one.

Not coal, but toast burnt until black with lashings of butter. I remember waking at the crack of dawn one Sunday morning, discovering that DH had finished the bread and, in desperation hunting through the kitchen bin until I found a discarded end slice, burning that and eating it with great relish.
