I remember Tommy Steele and the 'little White Bull ' * Anno* he was a great showman if you saw give a live performance.

We always used the record "Little White Bull" for pass-the-parcel at our girls' birthday parties in the seventies. Was one of my favourites. Still got my old 48's in the roof somewhere.

I used to dry the washing up, and sing along with my Mil when Sing Something Simple was on on Sunday evenings.

I have Hello Children Everywhere on my Kindle. DGS loves it and my tales of when grandma was little. For those who loved 'Nymphs and Shepherds' (and I was one!) did you see the BBC play 'That Day We Sang' with Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball, written by the wonderful Victoria Wood? It was a lovely musical and I think available on DVD.

I always loved Max Bygraves, especially his repartee with the band leader Geoff Love on his TV shows.
I`m glad I`m not the only one who remembers Pet Clark`s Little Blue Man.

I remember most of these. I bought a record with a lot of them on for my own children in the 1970s and they loved them too.
The one I couldn't stand (not a song) was Laaary the Laaamb. I really didn't like his voice.

Galen I thought that I was the only person still living who possessed a copy of 'Jennifer and the flower fairies'...! I adored it as a child, and so did DD - I'm getting ready to read it to DVD, as she's almost 3 and getting very excited about fairies The book looks a bit the worse for wear, but I'm sure it'll entertain another generation.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned Nellie the Elephant. It had such a catchy tune. I used to.love Ed Stewart children's programme on a Saturday morning and thought it so sad when BBC axed it. (got that wretched Nellie song on the brain now, shall be singing it all day). For some reason it brings back memories of having a hot drink in a special mug at bed time, it had a smiling face on it and a cover on the top that looked like a night cap. Sorry gone off topic a bit.

Some other Scots may remember The McFlannels. It occupied a 15 minute slot on Saturday evening on the Home Service. A kind of comedy soap, this Glaswegian family of at least three generations and an auntie from Aberdeen, were a bit like a wireless version of that other much loved family, The Broons, to be found in the Sunday Post. Sadly the McFlannels didn't stand the test of time.

Does anyone remember, on early TV, The Appleyard Family, and The Groves. Early sitcom! I particularly liked the Groves, who had a curmudgeonly grandmother. There was one episode that stuck in my mind when one of the younger Groves was told that he should eat his fish because it was brain food and if he ate enough, he could become Prime Minister. Cue allsorts of "dream scenes" where things went pear shaped in the world of junior Prime Minister Grove, and he never ate fish again! I can't remember any other episode than that one, but I enjoyed the series enormously.

Yes, the Groves! Grandma was always "Faint from lack of nourishment".
Someone mentioned Sing Something Simple, which we often heard in the car coming back from somewhere or other. Our girls were small then, but remember it. It was either preceded or followed by something with a signature tune "Living in a jungle, livening in a tent, living in a prefab, pay no rent". Whatever was thst?

Charlie Chester was 'Living in a prefab, no rent' and I think he came on before Sing something Simple.

Another old programme was Down Your Way with the wonderfully named Franklin Engelman (sp?)

I remember being sat on a potty with National Health orange juice and a book while mum listened to Mrs Dale's Diary each day. That woman was always worried about Jim! Also being dressed ready for bed then having my hair put in pin curls while mum and dad listened to The Archers

Mrs Dale's Diary! Did mother-in-law have a name, do you think, or was she christened mother-in-law? I read somewhere that the Queen Mother reportedly said that it was the "only way of getting to know what goes on in a middle class family" .

Didn't they kill off Mrs Dale on the night that ITV was launched, to keep listeners?

I seem to remember the mother in law was Mrs Freeman.

It wasn't Mrs Dale, it was Grace Archer who died on the night ITV was launched. A nation mourned, apparently.

I remember Sparky's weird sing-song voice. Slightly menacing, now I come to think of it. And The Runaway Train, of course, and Nellie the Elephant...Two Way Family Favourites takes me straight back to being a child, as it was always on whilst Mum and Nana were cooking Sunday dinner. (It was dinner and tea in those days, never lunch!)

I'm glad others remember Torchy, but does anyone remember Twizzle? I think he lived with other malfunctioning toys - I know there was a doll and a cat and a white-faced golliwog. Probably not very politically correct - I think his name was Chalky.

An early listener to Journey into space.
Listen with mother and the delightful Dorothy Edwards and her "My naughty little sister" stories. My daughter had a reception teacher reading them and she loved them.

Later on Sunday lunch time with the Navy Lark.
I last heard that in on tapes driving up though France in about 1988/9. The very English humour was surreal.
