As you rightly said, DaphneG you could very easily have paid a visit to the supermarket. I trust Ocado are suitably penitent. Not that it will be of much use. Your daughter and grandson have been let down badly.

anno a well deserved pat on the back for you and your pupils. One of our grandsons is dyslexic. His parents have given him extra tuition and, he has the grades he needs to move on to sixth form college.
cornerg take your time and as you're clearing and preparing, imagine how you'll feel when everything is tickety boo. Patience in abundance. 
anno I'm sorry that you're feeling out of sorts. However, if you put your mind and energy into doing one of the jobs in waiting, I can almost guarantee that your spirits will be lifted. I know...it works for me. If my suggestions fails...go ahead and pamper yourself as NanaandGrampy suggests.
wot Dreich was one of the first Scottish expressions that we learned when we moved to Scotland thirteen plus years ago. The ladies in the care home are all Scots. They use all manner of colourful expressions when I'm with them. I'm certain that none of the words are rude. Although...
Having said I'd nowhere to go, I met my neighbour who asked me to go round for a drink to celebrate her mother's 90th birthday. So I popped round for a small glass of wine. It was interesting to see my vast shrubs from the other side of the fence and I discovered a clematis I'd completely forgotten about - thriving on neglect! Wonder what else is hiding down there. 
Thanks for all the advice, N&G and soop. I am considering both. Now I need to take a paracetamol for a throbbing wisdom tooth which I want the dentist to remove and he wants do a root canal, which would cost more than an extraction.
anno The invitation to raise a toast to your neighbour's mother's birthday, did you good. A little company is a welcome tonic. The tooth sounds painful. I've been there. I've had both an extraction of wisdom teeth and root canal. Of the two, I would suggest extraction. Paracetamol helps enormously. I hope that you can get matters dealt with pdq.
I've been trying on jeans. I seem to have increased my waist size without realising it. At my slimmest, I was an 8. Then, a 10. A 12 for yonks. Now I'm possibly a 13 (only there isn't such a size). Still, for 75 years, I'm in a reasonably decent shape. Or so MacSporran assures me.

Tizliz I understand how flummoxed you must have felt when reading your daughter's dissertation for her masters' degree. My son, long ago now, would often share uni' work with me. I was completely out of my depth. Had no idea what to make of most of it. Far too bright. Even now, whenever we meet, I seem to get a trifle tongue-tied. Silly, isn't it. Wherever did his aptitude for debate come from? I cannot think of another family member with his brain power.
Car insurance. Heck. You've been pushed to the limit of your endurance. I've been howling with laughter having read a summary of a man's early morning visit to drive-in takeaway. He went in for a milkshake. Came away 45 mins later with two apple pies and a chicken sandwich (with the wrong filling) having been told the entire story of the attendant's marriage woes.

We've been online for almost an entire hour. Why? We were purchasing our bus tickets in readiness for the weekend clan gathering. Oh boy...aren't we pleased to have cracked the system. First of all...we mucked up the time table 
followed by a series of other senior moments. Hooray! We now have the tickets duly printed.
Tomorrow, I shall be accompanying my friend (whose dog was put to sleep) to visit her husband in the care home. It is going to be difficult. I'm very fond of her. She is terribly distressed. I know that there are no words to comfort her right now. I shall suggest we have coffee after the visit. To date, she has always declined "because Susie (the dog) will be waiting for me..."
The sun is shining. It's a pleasant end of day. I look forward to catching up with you when I return tomorrow.
