cornergran Back pain is grumpy-making. Rest a while. If the sun is shining, as it is here, put on a sunhat and sit in the garden.

Annsixty Wow!!! That's heartening news. You are indeed on the road to full recovery. As you say, independence is the key to a fulfilled and useful life. Keep up with the good work. grin

Hello, wobblybits it's good to have you with us.

Guess what, we rescued a bee this morning. We fed it with sugar water on a spoon. It drank the liquid and was obviously beginning to pick up. We then transferred it to a leaf with a few drops of sugar water close by.

I caught up with the ladies in the Care Home. M told me that since I last saw her (two weeks ago) she has been demobed from the WAAF. We raised a Digestive biscuit in honour of her "retirement". wink

I've lovely photo of our granddaughter who is to marry her long term Dutch partner next June. I shall share it with you shortly.

What a lovely young couple soop. Hawkeyes noticed that Rory did not have a cushion on the bench. I am so disappointed that you do not know how to look after this cat's every need. I am amazed that he walked so far from the house- a few yards! That will be his daily exercise no doubt.

soop Tue 30-Aug-16 14:34:16

Charleyg Walking from the front door to the bench is most def Rory's daily quota of strenuous physical exercise. The cushion goes out with us. He parks upon it when we vacate the bench. At the mo' he's fast asleep and draped unbecomingly over MacS's lap.

I've my ironing to tackle. Hey ho! I shall pop in when it's done and put away in the appropriate drawers.

Afternoon all!
Annsixty, so nice to see such a happy and positive post from you. When I left hospital I could only manage 80 degrees of bend, and never got further than that at physio, but it has improved since then, but exactly how much I don`t know.
N&G, glad your daughter is doing well after her op.
Soop, lovely bee photo, but I would have been terrified! I don`t mind bees as long as they`re not close to me, whereas wasps scare me rigid just seeing them in the distance. I`m glad to see that Rory has approved the bench. What a pretty girl your granddaughter is.
Cornergran, I hope your back is feeling better.

numberplease Tue 30-Aug-16 16:39:17

Meant to say, love the latest Flynn pic, such a cheeky little face!

soop Tue 30-Aug-16 17:12:49

I agree with number Flynn has an impish look. I think he's adorable. Us lot will hopefully enjoy many more photos as he progresses through the many phases of babyhood. He's an honorary member. smile

The last time I checked on the bee, it was looking fine. It would be nice to discover that it had taken flight. We shall see.

cornergran Tue 30-Aug-16 17:36:15

Lots of positives in here today. ann, wow, that's progress smile. Good for you. Enjoy a well earned rest. That bee knew where to be rescued, soop, the soon to be married couple look very happy. Your daughter must have been feeling better and also have a very robust digestion, n&g, great progress, you must be so relieved. Hope the estate agent moves things along soon. My grump has been cheered by the arrival of a set of books from Gransnet. The back is still a pain in the (b**), back sad, but the books on small gardens are an excellent distraction. A,though they are bound to show me what we've done wrong in our tiny garden. hmm. Friend coming to stay tomorrow so there had better be a major overnight improvement or she may not want to stay for very long grin.

soop Tue 30-Aug-16 17:48:14

cornerg Your friend won't mind one bit should you need to take things easy. Her company may well enable you to get better that much quicker.
Congratulations on winning the books. In the very early days of GN, I also won a surprise parcel of books.

Before I log off...the bee has flown. We're thrilled that it survived.

Ironing duties tomorrow morning. I shall hope to be back in the kitchen early afternoon. I shall also look forward to updates from you lovely lot.

smile moon

Charleygirl Tue 30-Aug-16 18:09:09

cornergran have you any idea how you injured your back originally? What have you done recently that has given you so much pain? Do you have sciatica or is the pain only in the lower back? I hope that you are taking regular analgesia- this is a message from somebody who refuses to touch them! But it is definitely do as I say and not do as I do!

I have given up wishing for rain and I am making the most of the gorgeous weather, trying to revive my half dead plants as it has been so hot for so long.

Enjoy your friend's stay- with luck you will be laughing so much and enjoying yourselves that you will forget about it. The odd tipple does not hurt either, again says one who never touches anything other than wine.

cornergran Tue 30-Aug-16 20:51:23

Will pm you Charleyfirl, don't want to bore the world with the list!

NanaandGrampy Wed 31-Aug-16 08:27:47

Morning everyone !!

Its a bright , blue sky day here ! Its my poorly daughters birthday today so will be popping over to celebrate. She was discharged about 9pm last night and will have the district nurse pop in to dress and repack the wound but I'm sure she had a better nights sleep.

She said there were 2 elderly ladies on the ward . One who slept very well but snored loudly and one with dementia who every time the snoring reached a crescendo yelled 'Shut up Bitch !!' I'm sure it was quieter in her house last night smile

Our new photos have appeared online and I'm sorely tempted to buy my own house !!

Ann you sound so much better and quite sprightly !!! That was quite an achievement .

Soop something similar happened to our daughter in terms of antibiotics but she seems on the mend now. I did chuckle though, apparently trifle was served at lunch yesterday and two of her young visitors ate hers - she was NOT impressed !!

Beautiful picture of the engaged couple . And the bee.... it was quite happy to be spoilt by the look of it .

The books sound lovely Corner , is the back still bad today?

Well I am off to bake buy a chocolate cake for the little party we will have for my daughter. My DGD has sent me a message to say please buy a good one ( I have spoilt that child and she will not eat poor quality chocolate and can tell the difference if you try and slip a sub standard bar in her sweetie box !!)

I hope you all have a lovely day whatever your plans x

Charleygirl Wed 31-Aug-16 09:29:43

N&G what a time to discharge your daughter but there is nothing like your own bed when you have had the type of night's "sleep" she obviously did.

Your latest estate agent sounds slow off the mark- has he sent his mother or anybody he found on the street to view yet? It must be so frustrating for you- I hope not to be compos mentis when I leave here and that will probably be sooner rather than later!

Have a lovely party this pm- I trust you to buy a decent cake all by yourself.

It is a tad dull today but still very warm. No more lolling around here, I must go out to buy food.

I am trying to give away a perfectly good TV on Freecycle. I said no mobile numbers but folk want photos. No chance I have not got a clue. They forget the meaning of the word Free in Freecycle!

Tegan Wed 31-Aug-16 09:48:06

Feeling a bit raw today. Had what was almost a wonderful day at my son's wedding [weather, everything was perfect; all the things I thought could go wrong didn't]. Except for the fact that I seem to have 'upset' DD in some way yet again and was pretty much blanked by her the whole time we were there. I'm trying not to feel hurt by it, but it isn't working. I really didn't deserve this [just needed to offload; sorry sad].

annsixty Wed 31-Aug-16 10:44:05

Families "who'd ave em". Hope you feel better about it soon. Don't let it cloud the good memories for you.

Charleygirl Wed 31-Aug-16 11:25:03

There are times when I am glad I do not have any living relatives in this country.

I have a cousin in Canada who sends me a C*******s card but just signs it- I have not got a clue what she gets up to. My cousins in Ireland are little better, I frequently receive cards early new year. Could I trade that lot in I wonder?

Tegan Wed 31-Aug-16 11:34:34

The trouble is all of the people that were 'my' family were actually my ex inlaws so, an awkward atmosphere with DD meant that I was somewhat cut off from them which left me and the S.O. in no mans land, family wise. I've always felt so proud of my daughter but, quite frankly at this moment in time I'm ashamed of her.

cornergran Wed 31-Aug-16 11:48:09

Last time I was in hospital I threatened to abseil out of the window unless I was allowed to go home and sleep n&g. Never understand how anyone is supposed to rest in a hospital! Hope your daughter has a good day, you will feel better for seeing her. The back is settling, thank you. Less grumpy today anyway smile. Love the sound of the chocolate cake. Dont suppose there will be any left? I'm sat waiting for our friend to arrive trying to work out what I have forgotten to do. There will be something for sure and my current state of relaxation will morph into panic any minute grin. As annie'says 'families who'd ave em!' Tegan, horrid experience, hope you feel a bit better now. Our children certainly can put us through it. Hope you can focus at least a bit on the good bits of yesterday. Know what you mean charleyfirl, we gave away so much when we shrank our home, some people were wonderful but sadly they were outnumbered by the difficult ones. Truly don't understand. Oh well, best be off, let the panic begin grin.

DaphneBroon Wed 31-Aug-16 11:52:57

Oh Tegan, there may be things going on in her life to preoccupy her which are not really anything to do with you, or at least for which you are not responsible. And while you may be worried either way, as clearly I hope there is nothing wrong there, give her space and perhaps discreetly try to find out gently via a third party if there is anything you should know about?
Failing that, give it another day, then an email/note whatever to say lovely last weekend, little DGS looked enchanting, hope all is well with them and see if it elicits a response.
Know the feeling (but fortunately USUALLY unfounded)

soop Wed 31-Aug-16 15:45:40

Tegan DaphneB is very wise. If you do as she suggests I wouldn't mind betting that you'll receive a positive and welcome response. You've nothing to lose. Go on...do it. flowers

NanaandGrampy What a wonderful day for your poorly daughter's birthday. Celebrate in style. Only the best chocolate cake will be good enough. Share your happiness. sunshine

My pal for whom I do the ironing, had prepared a picnic lunch with wine. We shared with a couple of mutual friends and thoroughly enjoyed a happy wee gathering. Spontaneous and relaxing and good humoured. I love such occasions.

cornerg How is your back today? I too was wondering whether you might have sciatica. If so, it's a buggeration.
Remember not to put any unnecessary strain on it. Otherwise you'll make matters so much worse.

Tegan Wed 31-Aug-16 16:41:36

No; there's nothing going on in her life. I know that because I get phone calls at all hours whenever there's a problem. I know DD too well. these were 'hate vibes'sad.

soop Wed 31-Aug-16 17:25:59

Tegan If indeed they were 'hate vibes' there is only one way to react...do nowt. Stay well clear. This isn't what you deserve. It's your daughter's problem. NOT yours. I am with you all the way. Stress ye not. flowers smile sunshine

Tegan Wed 31-Aug-16 17:44:07

Thanks soop; yes, I am keeping a low profile!

soop Wed 31-Aug-16 18:14:47

Tegan Thank goodness that you understand that 'bad vibes' are worthless. That sort of negativity is best avoided. Bad manners could so easily affect your peace of mind - so, brush yourself down and ignore them.

I must have had a funny troll-type message deleted in my in box. What's it about? Who is playing silly b's? Have they nothing better to do? hmm

Tegan Wed 31-Aug-16 19:30:54

Believe me; DD was a Gorgon in a previous incarnation. Y'sure know when you've displeased her....grin.
