The other side

There was a spot in a hotel my father used to manage, on the first floor where the lift stopped and where there was a balcony overlooking the foyer. Visitors' dogs balked at walking past this spot, whimpering and cowering, their hair standing on end. I witnessed this several times as a child.

It was said that the architect who designed the hotel jumped to his death from the balcony to the foyer below.

It is hard to believe in ghost but ... there are many things strange happening around us and depending of our level of sensibility ..perception of strange thing can happen .. But I believe we all sometime have strange feeling about the past or also the future .
Generally it is a one or 2 seconds happening and it is gone and unfortunately cannot be reproduced by you or anyone ....
Strange events who has happened to me ..
At 7 seen for several minutes a red cigare shape "flying saucer " while waiting for the bus to school ..as a teenager seen from my seat on a train in France a lady in a black dress in a tunnel ...fleeting moment but still thinking about them . lots of time the feeling you are not alone ..
very recently having huge thoughts about a person I used to know about 40y ago and also about a German Cyclist Rudy Altig( world champion etc ) in the 1960 , very troubling so much I researched it on google and found out they both died the weeek I had these overwhelming thoughts ...strange ...

Great stories here, true I'm sure. I wasn't sure about ghosts until my mother & aunt encountered one. They rented Margells, a Landmark Trust house in Devon which is medieval & has a wall-painting. Both are formidable ladies, very strong minded and hard to intimidate. They heard all sorts of things, knocks on the front door, footsteps, a party in an adjoining room, snoring. There was one bedroom that had a feeling that it was occupied and the occupant just wanted to be left alone. But undeterred they slept there. Both were quiet, trying to go to sleep, listening to the snoring. My aunt called to mum, 'I wish you'd stop snoring & let me get to sleep!' My mum replied, 'I've been lying awake listening to that!' Aunt said, 'whoever you are if you stop that we'll go and never come back again! And the rest of the night was quiet. At no point was anyone else in the house.
A few years later hubby & I went to stay in the glorious Welcome Barton, (welcome is a village) in Devon owned by the wonderful Yarner Trust (they have fab craft courses). It was magnificent & I wandered round alone taking digital photos. When I looked at them closely, there were cloudy patches just where a person would sit, on a chair & on the end of the bed. The photos before & after are fine, no problem with the camera. I had felt there were people about, although it was only us there, but nothing sinister.
I've felt/seen other things at times, but those are my best stories.

I have seen something once,but I want to tell these two stories.First a supervisor who worked in supermarket on nights approached a man dressed in a gray uniform looking at the pic & mix sweets,as she approached he turned and walked up the stairs and disappeared through the wall! The supermarket was built on a disused railway station the man could have been a railway worker,as historically there where riots there and someone died.ghost with a sweet tooth ha ha !
A close friend I new was at her mothers bungalow she was in the kitchen and heard the doorknob (always been loose) rattle.She looked up,and saw the ghost of her father entering the bathroom,she was naturally upset and unnerved, she was close to her father and they used to have conversations about ghosts and he didn't believe in them.
Two weeks later my friend died of dvt after a short flight.

Not sure Ghosts and spirits are the same thing but back in1992 my darling mum passed away after a short but nasty terminal illness. Three days after she had passed I was outside a shop waiting for dad to buy his cigarettes. The weather was awful, very cold,very wet and windy, my umbrella had turned inside out and I was getting very tearful. I was feeling awful, apart from being very emotional I was cold and tired. I was getting a tad impatient with my dad bless him. As I stood outside the shop- (don't even know why I didn't go in with him!) I felt someone's hand on my right shoulder giving it a gentle squeeze. There was definite pressure felt. I turned round to see who it was- nobody there, not a soul. No one was even around, the street was deserted. I strongly believe it was my mum's presence saying to me " Be patient, Annie he won't be long."

When my husband was 13 he stopped at his friends house overnight. There were a few lads there and they decided to experiment with an ouija board. A message came through for him simply saying ' never mind my son'. The next day his sister came to take him home and he was told his dad had been killed in a hit and run accident the day before. He is a no nonsense person but has no doubt that spirits do exist.

Never actually seen an apparition, but have lived in 2 haunted houses 1) former b&b accommodation which had sound of old person's footsteps going upstairs, what sounded like tray being put down and heavy sigh. 2) 400 year old cottage on site of friary where nothing was seen or heard, but there was cold spot on stair and glorious light, similar to candlelight in master bedroom. And 3) in family crisis, when we broke down and had to use AA pick up to get to my mother's. I felt my dad's presence just over my shoulder, but didn't dare look round. DH did so (never met Dad), and was able to describe him to s T, sitting in driver's seat. We both got a sense of reassurance, which proved to be right.

I have had 2 instances of ghosts.
1. I was on holiday in Cornwall in a very old Cottages with friends . We were getting ready to leave and I went upstairs to check that we hadn't left anything. I checked my room and as I went towards my friends bedroom, there was someone sitting at the dressing table doing her hair. At first I thought it was my friend , but then I realised that she was dress in Edwardian attire and as soon as I thought what it could be, she disappeared.
2. I have moved to temporary accommodation in a Georgian house and had left some packing cases up on the second floor and the staircase to it had a closed door.
I was in the living room on ground floor, my baby was asleep in bed and my husband was in the bath on the first floor. Suddenly we both heard a crash and I ran up stairs and found one of the packing cases at the top of the stairs

A teacher of mine was a sensible prosaic soul.
She lived in a village and worked in town. The bus would arrive in the village and the passengers would walk down the village street and an old man would lean over his gate wishing everyone a good evening.
One evening she smiled at him and wished him a good evening. When she got home, she realised that he'd died the previous day.

She tried to be rational about it. Perhaps she saw him because she was expecting to?
It certainly puzzled her

Hard to believe in ghosts or a spirit world in this technological era where science seems to have a practical explanation for everything. However I too have experienced events that have no other explanation. I was leaving my office one evening and saw a chap sitting on a chair in the corridor. He looked at me and I said Good Evening as I passed him. As I reached the lift I realised there were no chairs there and I didn't recognise him (I knew everyone who worked there). I turned back but of course there was nothing there. The building had been converted from an old maternity hospital, so maybe he'd been waiting for his baby to be born ...

My dad was killed in a car smash when I was still at school and I felt his presence at each house I lived in for many years after - and I moved often! It would only be the once, just to have a look round to see where I was living. When DS was very young he described a man standing at the corner of his bed that I knew was my dad come to see his first GC.

I've had so much 'stuff' happen to me, that I KNOW there's something else beyond here. The most eventful time there were happenings, was on a holiday to Mousehole in Cornwall with my sister-in-law. We were staying in a friend's recently renovated cottage. The first evening, my sil said that she'd heard a roaring coming from the stone walls. Now, she like's a drink, so I just thought 'hmmm' .... Anyway, the next morning, we were both sitting drinking our morning coffee, when we both heard what sounded like a heavy bowling ball being dropped and rolled behind the sofa where I was sitting. With a 'wtf' I jumped out and pulled said sofa away from wall ... nothing. Later, as we were going out for lunch, there was the noise of a heavy (invisible) chair being dragged across the flagstoned floor. We shut the door and scarpered! That evening, I too heard the roaring from the walls (I'm teetotal). Other stuff that occurred was the kitchen cupboard opening and slamming when they felt like it - in front of us; my toilet bag flying off of the bathroom shelf; loud bangs from various parts of the cottage (detached and a long way from any other dwellings). We weren't scared - quite the opposite - and decided to carry out a home-made Ouija Board, as we thought if it would work anywhere it would be there ... nothing - lol! Everybody that knows me reckon it's all down to me, as stuff happens everywhere I go. They say, don't bring Jackie - she always brings a crowd. A lot of it involves keys, locks breaking, key safes breaking, etc. All witnessed by other people, and not just me. I think I need to be exorcised. Incidentally, I just typed this all 10 minutes ago, and as I went to post it, it just totally vanished! Here's hoping it doesn't again ....

Few mistakes - was frightened to check it before posting - in case it all disappeared again!

I have always been very sceptical about all things ghostly and spiritual. On Friday I spoke to one of my DDs. Both she and I are having a bit of a hard time, particularly about my DH/ her Dad who died 4 years ago and we are both considering a big move which is unsettling. She told me that she had recently visited a medium (but hadn't wanted to tell me) which really surprised me as, like me, she is normally very grounded and down to earth. However, to cut a long story short, she had recorded this and asked if I wanted to hear it. I did. Quite an eye opener. DH was described very accurately, frighteningly so, along with his love of boats and many other attributes. I won't bore you with all the detail, but 'he' came back with some answers to her problems. Now I am sure these mediums have a way of twisting and using information already gleaned from the client, but some of this was seriously weird. Still don't really believe it, but I may be a tad less sceptical today than I was when I woke up on Friday morning . Whatever I or she believes, it gave her comfort and encouragement.

I believe there's definitely something! We were on holiday in Cornwall with the kids, and our bedroom just felt a bit odd, it overlooked the harbour and there was a window at the bottom of the bed with a rocking chair in front of it. Totally fine during the day but at night I didn't dare look at it in case it was rocking, just a horrible feeling. Also the room where my 8 year old daughter slept was odd too, she fell out of bed the second night, never done before or since and while I was in the room with her, the wardrobe suddenly started to fall on her, if I hadn't been there and caught it, it would probably have crushed her. We went home two days early feeling thoroughly spooked!
