It's not usual for me to start a thread, but I am feeling upset and need to know what others think.
For those who don't know me, I live abroad but am currently in Kent staying with my sister who has advanced breast cancer.
Earlier this week, I made the journey up to Chester for a short visit to one of my oldest and dearest school friends who is battling brain cancer. It was hard seeing how she is gradually losing her faculties, but we still managed to have a lovely visit.
What has me in a tizz is that another old school friend has seen on Facebook that I was in Chester and I received a message from her making it clear that she has taken umbrage because I did not tell her I would be there.
The reason I didn't is that she never really seems interested in anything I do, never comments or 'likes' photos or anything on Facebook, nor does she ever suggest meeting me anywhere. She also goes to Anglesey every August so it never occurred to me that she would even be in Chester.
Not being someone who likes upsetting people, I messaged her back apologizing for not having been in touch but that I was literally only there for a day and a half to visit my very poorly friend, and saying I hoped we could meet next time I'm up that way.
Her reply was that she was sure I would be hurt if she came to where I live and didn't get in touch (actually, no I wouldn't), and she hoped I had enjoyed my travels.
After what I have been through in the past couple of years I just could not believe how spiteful that remark was. It is not very enjoyable seeing two people I care for suffering the ravages of cancer.
We have been friends for over fifty years and I would not like to fall out with her, but I could not bring myself to reply and, as she's clearly aggrieved with me, I don't suppose she will be in touch in a hurry.
Sorry this is long, but maybe writing it down will help me to stop fretting over it.
Thanks if you have read through all this.
