Made me smile

Don't worry sunseeker it is just life really! I loved your post and it reminded me of various incidents when DC were small and also the DGC. I loathe it when kids just whine and whinge and really appreciate the intelligence of those able to put forward a cogent argument from their perspective as it gives real insight into just what they are thinking. It may well be the child's precociousness which makes it difficult for adults to believe but some children seem able to out think adults fairly easily. Size is not necessarily an indicator of intelligence or ability!

As for others, well, people get out of the wrong side of the bed sometimes and others have a continuous pain somewhere or other. Sniping at others doesn't make anything any different but perhaps it is just a knee jerk reaction when not feeling A1. It happens!

Hear hear pheonix very well said. This is why I've been loving the Gransnetters Olympics thread - very funny, silly, and no unkindness at all.

I have mentioned before that I don't have children so I am not as familiar with these kinds of exchanges between adults and children as others so when I overheard this one, I had to smile. When I originally posted I had no idea the tone of the thread would become unpleasant. I just wanted to share something I thought was sweet and amusing. Thanks to those of you who accepted the post as it was intended.

I'm with you all the way, I find children can make me smile too.

I enjoyed watching a recent series on t.v which followed 4/5 and 6 year olds at a play centre and they were so funny at times and their vocabulary and thought process was often very mature. They were obviously being covertly filmed and two psychologists were watching and commentating on their ability to interact with one another. They were in stitches at times as it was not supposed to be anything other than a light hearted view of the way children behave.

Off to Yelverton RAF day with my friends and family including my very cute GD,who says things like " I can't see grandma,I haven't got my glasses" and " he did that by purpose"

We also got a bag of verbal hand grenades and a camouflage jacket for swift Commando style raids.

LisaLou we were all issued with a shiny tin hat/ helmet when we joined the forum, now and then they do an inspection , which reminds me that mine is looking a bit dull and dented and must get going with the spit and polish.

The written word can be construed and misinterpreted and come across as an attack, if you spoke on the same topic it would come across differently. I have noticed myself that some post a reply to a topic and theyve only skimmed the post so not understood properly.

I'm afraid,Sunseeker,there are a few people here who will always be unpleasant.

Marmark1, not I dont think that is what is being said at all, I think all people are saying is that there are ways of saying things, and you are entitled to disagree, but there is no need to get nasty.
I dont think the child was being a wiseguy, and quite frankly prefer her attitude to hearing a child whinging and creating because she cant get her own way. To me that is cute!
On the other hand, I love how happy this place usually is.
(Phoenix, could I please borrow that tin helmet of yours? I think i might need it, Promise to polish it nicely and return it)

Theres no such thing as a smooth running forum where everyone will agree with one and other, it would be boring if there was.

Marmark1 Of course that is not what is being said. However, it is possible to post a comment disagreeing with a view without being unpleasant.

Very well said, phoenix. I'm sure you speak for a lot of us who agree with you absolutely.

It takes some of us a lot of courage to post and it is not necessary to be made to regret it by someone else's unpleasant comments. If you think a thread is not to your taste, there is no need to comment at all.

Well said Pheonix It does seem that some posters can't just accept a post for what it is, in this case an overheard conversation in a supermarket which made me smile. yes jbf it really did happen. However, unlike Casawan I think the majority of GNs are supportive, reasonable people and I can quite easily ignore the posts of those who are not

I agree with phoenix too

Sometimes I just don't bother as the posts are so opinionated and you just know that whatever you say will be completely ignored

I have ended up making a report today. It is all getting a bit much.
I dont have a problem taking it at all, but there comes a point, where the people doing it need to know that enough is enough, and actions have consequences, and they need to be brought to account.
