what is your favorite childhood book

kezia I'm another fan of 'The family from one,one end street' I'm worried I'll spoil the memory by reading it as an adult. I hope you enjoy it. Perhaps I'll give it a try.

Little Women seems to be the favourite of many. I always hoped Jo would marry Laurie but however many times I read the book it was always Amy who bagged him. Actually, I think that must have been in Good Wives, not Little Women. I was reminded of Amy in the recent terrorist attack by the man in the lorry in Nice because it happened on the Promenade des Anglais, down which Amy walked in Good Wives. I think it was on her honeymoon.

Most of the above,they bring back memories, but can't choose a favourite.
I also liked Swish of the Curtain, a very scarey book called Giantland, and The Little Grey Men.
Sounds like we were all bookworms, not much on TV in those days, and no internet.

I bought all the Famous Five books with my pocket money - I seem to remember they had red covers and were 5/- each. I loved 'Simon' about the English Civil War. I also read ' Wuthering Heights' as a teenager and adored it - I disliked it intensely when I read it as an adult!

Worsel Gummage , Mrs Pepperpot and My naughty little sister were my favourites , as a teenager I loved Wuthering heights and re read it loads of times . I was enthralled by the relationship between Heathcliffe and Cathy , but didn`t get how destructive it was until I was an adult .

I bought it for dd, but she wasn't interested.

Little Women and the follow ons of Good Wives and Jo's Boys. In fact I have a small collection of vintage editions. I have never thought the film versions have ever done the book justice.

All the Enid Blyton Famous Five books and the Lone Pine Club books by Malcolm Saville. I think the LPC books are out of print now.

Heidi - of course

My all time favourite was Little Women, read it so often that it nearly fell to bits. Also loved The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. Both are still on my bookshelf.

"The Borrowers" - I desperately wished that we had Borrowers in our house (I was an only child!) When I was older I loved "I Capture the Castle"

Heidi was on on my favourites, also Little Women and Famous Five I also had a book called the Treasure Hunters that I loved but I've never been able to find it.

Yes Enid Blyton despite the way her writing is decried now. Little Women, What Katy Did, Jennings,
Just William. I also remember reading a very old book called Bonnie about a poor little beggar girl who died in the end. I wept buckets.

What age of child are we talking about. I loved the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson when I was very young. I read Jane Ayre when I was ten, and it was my favourite book for a long time.

Mine was Jill's Gymkhana and then every possible pony book written , from the Pullein-Thompsons to Pat Smythe!

I didn't read The Secret Garden till I was older, but both my DGDs (5 and 6) love the abridged Ladybird version.
My own favourite was Little Women.

Has to be Susannah of the Mounties by Muriel Denison - my daughter got me a copy off eBay as a gift and I love having it again.

I liked the Heidi books and will give them to my DGD1 soon.She has just discovered reading on her own for pleasure.
