Things we don't see anymore

LullyDully - your post brings back memories which makes me shiver in retrospect. If I was late for work when I was in my teens I used to jump off the bus at a corner to save time.

On another occasion when I was a child, the school bus was so crowded that I was standing downstairs next to the platform clinging on to the child in front of me.

The bus stopped suddenly and I fell onto the platform. My daps fell into the road but I managed to save myself.

We had Beryl the Milk in a horse and cart, milk churns at the back. Also Mr. Porlock who delivered fruit and veg using a horse and cart.

Wraparound pinnies are still a fashion must have in rural France, a pair of old cut down wellies completes the look!

Ah Yes, turned over wellies, Compo style.

We used to have Kunzel cakes for tea at my Nan's. When I included them in a pestilence piece about my grandmother on a workshop I found most people had never heard of them, when the workshop leader mentioned them at home her partner had very fond memories of eating them. Think I'd find them far too sweet and sickly now!

a lot of these are still around, I have bottle of cherry B in the fridge,but my vote goes to rag & bone men, could do with one as we have a load of stuff you can only take to the tip & neither of us drive

I suppose the biggest difference between 'then' and 'now' is that then we had 'never had it so good' and nobody had any money and there was nothing to buy and now we live in an era of 'austerity' which is characterised by unimaginable plenty and splurging.

I was just going to say Liberty Bodice Nana - remember the rubber buttons? I had to get dressed for school in front of a one bar electric fire and I remember the fiddle of thos buttons!

They most certainly do

Izal toilet paper for tracing. Lace caps with beads on for over the milk jug. Rail carriages with compartments and a corridor down one side, smoking on buses, (thank heavens), eggs in isinglass, hair ribbons on most girls, pop man as well as the milk man.

Loved chicken in the basket but my favourite was scampi in the basket. Whenever I mention these to our kids now 34 and 30 they are hysterical with laughter.

You can still get love hearts online, son had them as favours in his wedding. Have rediscovered Babycham in local Morrisons and had some at Christmas with a cherry of course, loved it!

I've got a milk bottle on my doorstep and our postman always wears a uniform.

I remember the Corona man coming once a week.mum used to get three bottles fizzy pop for weekends our treat.

We had a Walls ice-cream man who came on a Sunday pushing a cart up the street.

As a child can remember going to Coop with mum and when she paid the money went into metal tube which went on wire up to an office and then change came down with receipt.anyone remember that or was I three year old with an imagination!!
