It's impossible to pick just one piece!

A pp has just reminded me about Barber's Adagio. It used to come on Classic FM when dd was a baby. I used to play it to send her to sleep didn't work, alas.

I don't think anyone's mentioned any jazz yet, so I'm going to go for Don't Know Why by Norah Jones, Feelin' Good by Nina Simone and So What by Miles Davis.

I love many of the ones already mentioned, but one that hasn't been - Benjamin Britten, Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Purcell.

My choice of something lighter would be La Mer, by Charles Trenet.

It's All Right Now - by Free. I want it played at my funeral (along with Morning has Broken)

I have been struggling with that piece of Mozart on the piano, and though it is not yet spot on (by any means) I am almost at the stage where it doesn't sound mangled anymore! It is a beautiful piece.

If I really want to feel mournful, then Barber's Adagio will do it every time.

Too many for me as well but this short Mozart one has a lovely melody.

It is also relatively easy to sing compared with many another choral work.

The dreadful Christmas cards spoil the visual effects though.

Some days it is something happy, others nostalgic, or soaring and heavenly, perhaps melancholy depending on the mood I'm in.
Sometimes it's just a bit of rubbish which lingers as an earworm!

It is indeed, Hilda. It was one of the hymns at my d-i-l's funeral service - i don't know who chose it, not DS, but I think I was the only one outside the normal congregation of the church who was familiar with the tune. I was talking to the vicar afterwards and he was, if course, very familiar with the hymn, but didn't know the "Five Variants".
