This would be my choice for last meal on earth! I loved it when younger and daren't make or buy it as I could easily finish all of it off. Eat it and enjoy! We have a Greek healthy version of olive oil on bread with lots of salt (!) and pepper. Good but just not good enough.

A little of what you fancy does you good !

new research has shown that not everyone is affected by saturated fats ( I am unfortunately) bur other people eating LCHF have their cholesterol levels fall

I never could stand dripping. My mum used to produce bowls of bacon dripping, pork dripping, beef dripping, chicken dripping. Yuk! My siblings all seemed to love it but it made me want to urge.

God yes! Get it down you! I do this regularly (roast pork is GS's fave!) and DH and I both have dripping toast just as we did in childhood. The pork is probably worse for you than the dripping - a dietician friend of mine once told me that pork is possibly the most indigestible meat you can eat. We once stayed in a small inn in Bavaria and while waiting for our evening meal, a bowl of pork dripping was placed on the table with small pieces of crusty bread to stave off any extremes of hunger pangs. It was absolutely delicious. As dripping goes, I have rarely tasted better than the beef dripping that used to come from my mother's Sunday roasts. The layer of rich brown concentrated flavoursome goo followed by the slightly grainy dripping...... Doesn't happen now - they cut all the fat off cos it's bad for us!

Loved it as a child on fresh baked bread. Used to put pepper on it too and a sprinkle of salt. Not had any for years though and reading theses posts am suddenly yearning for some!!!!

Never had it but it doesn`t appeal , is it the bottom bit you eat or the white fat !! It is one of those things like sugar butties, carnation milk in tea , black pudding shock that I just can`t get my head round . I am a bit squeamish though !

When we were little, there was a shop that sold bread and dripping for a penny or two, fabulous. Go ahead and eat a little, then save some for all the salivating GN's.

Luckygirl Tue 19-Jul-16 16:55:24

My gran used to eat it every day and she weighed about 6 stone!

A little bit of what you fancy does you good! If you live your life being too squeaky clean, you probably won't live any longer but it will certainly feel like it!

NanaandGrampy Tue 19-Jul-16 16:41:36

No !!! Don't eat it!!!!

It might kill you!

What you need is a taste tester and at the risk of own arteries I could do that for you.

God, I'm so selfless obvious

ninathenana Tue 19-Jul-16 16:31:58

? ! Just the thought.

BBbevan Tue 19-Jul-16 16:13:31

Not bowel. The mind bogglesgrin

Teetime Tue 19-Jul-16 15:57:38

Not my cuppa at all but if its yours a little of what you fancy etc etc- I'm told its not what you eat some of the time that is the problem but what you eat all the time so if this is a rare treat and it would give you pleasure go for it! smile

I want some now!!!! Suddenly become hungry.

Teamliquid123 Tue 19-Jul-16 15:11:03

CK4260 - totally agree with you.

Teamliquid123 Tue 19-Jul-16 15:09:44

Millymouge go ahead and have some. A slice or two of toast and dripping is not going to harm you! And no guilty feeling about eating said dripping. Guilt IS bad for you.You will have to eat a lot more than a few slices to cause lasting damage to your health.

CK4260 Tue 19-Jul-16 15:09:07

I didn't have dripping as a child, but later in life a Yorkshire friend of mine offered me some when staying with them. It was fabulous, so I understand why you want to eat yours. Remember all the "fat is bad" din we have heard for the last 25-30 years has now been debunked - thank goodness, as I never subscribed to it. Everything and anything in MODERATION - so go ahead put the bread in the toaster and spread that loveliness and enjoy. Just don't do it every day!

At the weekend I cooked a pork joint, to have hot at weekend and then cold with salad. The problem is that now I have sitting in my frIdge a bowel with some lovely pork dripping in it. It has all that lovely jelly at the bottom and some little crunchy bits. The thing is when I was little (distant memory now) we used to have dripping toast for tea, especially in the winter, with a little sprinkle of salt on it and it was lovely. All the stuff that is bad for you now. I am trying to decide whether I could just manage one tiny slice of toast with it on it or whether I should be strong and bin the lot. DH is not being any help, keeps saying how nice it used to be. Did anyone else have dripping toast?
