Will the commencement of WW3 be announced on GN ?

Just my photos and a thick blanket you could probably only carry enough water food for a couple of days so why string it out ......toilets well where would you empty one? So I d find a corner....... I sit on the floor at home so wouldn't bother with a chair or a bed I would nt take Bear Gryliss one of my grandkids was in a small boat with him and told me about all the make up he wears I don't have any pets to worry about and alcohol wouldn't really help so I d travel light

I do love the way GN post headings read.

Prof Brian Cox would be no good in an emergency. He takes so long to say whatever when he wants to say you could be dead by the time he reaches the conclusion about what best to do to save you.

As well as some of the things above, I have in my bookcase[though others will have it on kindle, but would kindle work?], a book of what is edible in the countryside, and an army survival book.

We were stationed in Rheindahlen at the height of the Cold War-my dad worked in Ops after he stopped flying. He always said you don't really want to know what goes on. My teenage years were blighted by unannounced nuclear alert siren testing. You never knew if it was for real until they stopped. Some anxious minutes as we counted the seconds.....no wonder I've had anxiety issues in adult life!!!

I think I will go and print my list off the picnic thread.

My DD's MIL still has a shelter in her garden. A stray cat and kittens are in there at the moment with some necessities Blanket, food + water

He'd probably be running the country along with that smug Prof Brian Cox!

I really don't like him at all, but needs must, so I'd take Bear Grylls!

You have to have two, jane so that you can rub them together to make a fire - then you won't need matches!

Maybe, if time permitted, we could equip ourselves with a good boy scout? They'd know what to do!

Oh I was too serious in my post. Forget that!

Lots of warm sweaters preferably cashmere
Lots of warm socks - company in Devon do a good line
Lots of high tog duvets and comfortable pillows
Wind up thing to play music
Tinned food - yuk! But needs must.
Some sort of walky talky as radio won't be functioning
That's to start with.
I would probably last a month on that after which I would have the screaming ad-dabs.

Elegran. your serious list had some important items like matches, water tablets etc. that I missed.

Seeds etc. are a very good idea, one would hope that life would start again.

Strange isn't it that some of us when faced with only five choices (well, six - or eleven!) would choose malt whisky and a bible over a chemical toilet and a fridge full of food. I suppose I should call myself a lightweight, but I think I'm just a pragmatist!

Sorry, got into semi-serious mode there. To return to the point here are my five -

Comfortable chair with warm rug
Non-mains lighting
Non-mains fridge full of food
Kindle, well charged up and loaded with several hundred good books
Chemical toilet

All my family and friends complete with their own supplies.

Well do you remember the 1 in 5 lectures and other stuff on the telly back in the Cold War? It would definitely NOT be worth surviving if anyone does then I would feel terribly sorry for their suffering.

What goes around comes around. I remember thinking about this at a time when the USA and USSR were glowering at each other across the globe. We had a caravan standing in the drive which was usually stocked with enough basics for a few days away - water, bedding, tins, first-aid stuff - but it wouldn't have kept a family going for very long.
I also remember the Anderson shelter with the garden chairs, tins of beans, bottles of water, books and jigsaws, and the bucket in the corner. It didn't get much use - there was a communal shelter quite near which we went to a few times, but thank God not often.

Far more than five -

Water and water-treatment tablets
Chemical toilet
Tinned food and vitamin tablets
Warm and waterproof clothes and boots
Bedding
Wind-up torches and radios.
LED lights and spare batteries.
Matches
Lots of poly bags of various sizes
Books, paper, pens and pencils
String

And for when you emerge -
Weapons to defend your patch from usurpers
Vegetable seeds to start from scratch
Instruction books for building, farming, medecine, and any other subject you can lay hands on.

And anyway, if GandTea can have ELEVEN, I want my b****y malt back!!!
