What do you regret that you can't do any more?

My friend's mother died recently, and she asked me if I would sing at the funeral. I did have a wee practice , but a combination of age and illness meant I wasn't confident I could come up with the goods.

Maggie it did sound like a nasty fall. Maybe best to get your wrist checked out. Is it swollen? flowers

I can add sleeping to the list now, because of the pain caused by my fall today. The knee is one thing, just badly scraped and scabbing and stiffening up nicely. But I should probably stop pretending the right wrist is feeling better, and perhaps resign myself to the prospect of a boring morning in A & E tomorrow. sad

being able to spring down from my horse instead of slithering off the saddle like a bag of wet cement.

Jogging. I could never go very fast, but I could keep going for several miles. After operations on both feet, leading to ligament problems, and then a period of AF, I've lost all the fitness that I had. Walking is boring and doesn't give the same buzz and ability to lose yourself in the activity.

Not seeing clearly. Not being able to walk up our beautiful mountains. Not wading through the river with my dog. Not camping. Not having sex , I miss the comfort of arms

I regret not being able to remember what I regret, and not continuing with ballroom dancing when I was 17.

Running, jumping and wearing heels I think.

JessM Fri 15-Jul-16 21:46:54

Sleep all through the night.

Indinana said it all for me. Wonder how she knows? I just think my batteries are running low sad

Greyduster Fri 15-Jul-16 21:21:33

Thank God for that!! ?

Indinana Fri 15-Jul-16 20:40:03

Not that there were any online fora 40 years ago of course....

Indinana Fri 15-Jul-16 20:37:15

Greyduster grin. Would have been a very different tale 40 years ago - and one you wouldn't be sharing on any online forum wink

Greyduster Fri 15-Jul-16 20:32:00

I had no idea whether I could get out of a bath or not, indinana until we went away recently and in our hotel room was a beautiful double ended bath. We have never used the bath we have in our house, preferring showers, but you have to give it a go don't you? Himself at one end, and me at the other, hot water, scented oils, candles.... We both fell asleep! Then it was him who couldn't get out, not me! "I won't be b***dy trying that again!" he said. Ah well......[sigh].

Sleep in,
get pissed drunk ( I'd recover in a few hours, now it's days)
shop for hours.

There are so many things. Running, God when was the last time? Walking - a combination of arthritic knees and painful feet makes it so hard to walk for long. Getting down on the floor - with the kids, or to look for something I've dropped. OK, I can still get down, but what I miss is being able easily to get up again.
But the thing I really, really miss, above all else, is having a long soak in the bath. Simply because once I'm in, I really can't get out again. I have to roll over onto all fours somehow and lever myself up from that position The last time I had a bath was about 3 years ago when I thought, dammit I'm going to do it! And when it came to getting out I found there simply wasn't enough room to roll over. I managed somehow but it was difficult and very painful!

Skipping with a rope. By myself or with a bunch of people and a long rope.
It took me ages to learn how to jump in from the wrong side!

janeainsworth Fri 15-Jul-16 19:23:27

Ooh Maggie that sounds nasty! I hope you haven't done too much damage.
I would love a game of netball. The last time I played was over 25 years
ago sad

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Jul-16 19:19:39

So I suppose what I really can't do anymore is wear flimsy sandals. I'll just dig the Hotter catalogue out of the recycling.

Maggiemaybe Fri 15-Jul-16 19:18:28

Well, I was doing okay till today, when I measured my length running along the street in my silly trippy trappy strappy sandals that I've nearly come a cropper on before. Flat on my face, hurting both hands, one shoulder, one eyebrow bone and ripping my poor knee to shreds. So I haven't done much at all today, because I've been milking it for all it's worth grin.

That's the proof that we are middle-aged. When we can no longer stand from a chair without making a noise.

Cherrytree59 Fri 15-Jul-16 18:23:17

Walking without ankle brace!
My GS will soon be out of his push chair, so I will no longer have that to hold on to!
Having op in September
so maybe I will be able to go for an Autumnal walk brace free.
After that is, when I've been able to chuck the dreaded crutches.

Has any one noticed the one thing that quite a few of us have actually gained as we advance in years??

As I'm not sure how to spell ii!
all I can say is that there is a little noise that we emit usually from our throat.
It seems to happen as we rise up from our chairs or the floor (when playing with GC)
grin

Walk in a straight line and not fall A over T (even when sober), get out of the bath without enormous effort (on my husband's part) and roller skate. wink

Liz46 Fri 15-Jul-16 17:21:38

I used to love having a jive but would look ridiculous now.
