Light relief (pisstaking) from Labour's leadership contest

Since trades unions were so formative in the development of the Labour Party, I'm thinking about them and wondering what pissification gransnetters can come up with for union acronyms.

Let's kick off with the NUT: nutjobs union (as in you have to be to be a teacher wink) JOKE ALERT!

Not exactly a union but - OFSTED = Overpaid F*****s Shafting Teachers Every Day.smile

MU = Moaners Uncovered (Musicians Union)

See what I meant? This thread had now dried up. A victory for the heavy hand of the thou-shalt-not-laugh-this-is-serious brigade.

Explaining a joke instantly removes the fun, but if we really need to explain what shouldn't need explaining - humour releases the tensions produced by a difficult situation and provides a spot of relief.

Of course, there are always those who promote continually increasing the tension to breaking point, because they prefer it that way. The first move in brainwashing and re-education is to break down before building up the required dogma.

Long live the joke! Laughter will make us free!

RMT: Real Militant ....... . I leave the last word to your imagination. My thoughts are with those poor commuters whose lives are being made much more difficult by a particular train company.

Did Everyone Find Funny Remarks Amusing?

elegran, indeed, and grin

Your first comment is important. It's only people who have confidence in a thing who can also laugh at it. Nothing is perfect.

Not, of course, that anyone was laughing at trades unions. The amusement was afforded by acronyms that happen to be associated with trades unions and trades unions happened into my brain because of current political happenings. I thought I made that clear in the OP but clearly not clearly enough for some.

Who dreamed up the notion that you can't support something and laugh at the same time?

What a novel way of showing your "support" for trades unions thatbags.

thatbags Thu 14-Jul-16 07:20:22

They'll just say "it's not funny", anya. Which is fine. No-one is obliged to find it funny. Anyway, there's a difference between amusing and funny (they won't separate those notions either hmm ). The thread title was quite clear. I think some people just lurve disapproving and can't stop themselves, poor things.

Anya Thu 14-Jul-16 06:46:04

There isn't a GSOH union is there?

thatbags Thu 14-Jul-16 06:36:35

I'm remembering jings's "stuffed shirt" comments.

Listen, grumpies: I fully support the idea and the good work of trades unions. I was brought up on the history of the Labour movement because of my miner grandad. This does not mean I can't take the piss at acronyms. Taking the piss about acronyms associated with trades unions is not being anti unions or anti working people.

What a bunch of prosaic prudish prats who can't separate one notion from another in their stuffed shirt heads some of you are with your constant wrong assumptions and your constant disapproving! Spot on, pogs, with your "Ye gods!"

POGS Thu 14-Jul-16 00:06:40

Ye Gods.

Eloethan Thu 14-Jul-16 00:00:37

It might be a good idea to remember how the vast majority of working people were treated before there were unions.

Good one downtoearth!

thatbags Wed 13-Jul-16 20:49:31

It's a play on acronyms, aqua. A mere game with no malice aforethought. Taking it seriously is silly.

rosesarered Wed 13-Jul-16 19:20:15

This isn't about what the Trades Unions do (valuable work) this is just a joke thread!Cor blimey.

aquagran Wed 13-Jul-16 19:13:23

Joke alert! Not many laughing! I support the unions as they supported me as a worker!
