This Pokemon go thing

DGS who stays indoors playing on his iPad has been out walking 15 miles with mum and dad last weekend catching pokemen mon whatever they are called. Goes out every night walking with his dad. I think it's great as long as they are aware of roads and not on their own (my DGS explained it all to me quite clearly

Well, we got our Evies and evolved them into a mighty Sparky!!!

Plus, <drumroll> WE GOT 2 PIKACHUS!!!!!! Plus a Sandshrew and a snakey thing!!!!! Oh, and we walked over 6 miles too.

We're on level 17! Spent last night evolving pokemon to gain XP. It was so exciting!

Today we are off on a pikachu hunt, we caught sight of him last week so we're going back to the same place to stalk him. Also need some evies as they evolve into powerful pokemon.

I am really getting the hang of this now!!!

Try it Wilma. It's great fun. Who would have thought there were so many eggs, gyms and characters floating about the country! The complex rules and terminology defeat me but our boys get so excited, they have me believing I can actually see the things.

We're off to our old caravan in Wales for a long weekend on Saturday and I am very tempted to have a go!

Thanks for the suggestion LSP. Didn't know about those. Mind you, running out of phone battery is a good excuse to stop the GSs playing PokomonGo and do something else.

Jud, get a mobile recharger. they are about a tenner a pop and recharge a phone on the go fully, if not a little bit more.

The PokemonGo craze is with us too. DGSs are very into it which makes the car journeys and walks we drag them out to much more interesting. They will walk miles now getting excited about eggs, gyms, characters evolving etc. The problem for them, is that it is very hard on the phone battery so they are having to learn the difficult art of restricting their play. DGS1 showed incredible maturity by noting he had only 14% left on the phone, estimating how far away to go to the next Stop, and turning the phone off until he got there.

I haven't indulged yet myself, but the running commentary makes me feel like an expert. It has been a life saver this long school holiday when we have had to entertain the boys almost every day.

On the motorway in France on way down to the South and back, there were signs all over the place saying 'the one who drives doesn't play' - took us ages to realises what it was about- worrying indeed

We are heading to Abbey park Leicester tomorrow on a PM hunt with GS.

My DD downloaded the game for my DGC when they go out with her. They found a couple of Pokemon on the street near their flat, but after that they became bored and wouldn't play it. She has deleted it.

Well. It's definitely doing a good job with DGS2. He would, if left to his own devices, spend most of his time on his Nexus 7.

The other day he walked/ran nine miles (!) dragging his poor mother with him (he's only 11). Apparently they can find 'eggs' which will not hatch out unless the player reaches a certain point in a given time. So, it was, "Come on Mum. We've got to run!" (This to DD who was wearing new walking boots to break them in!

Apparently never a day goes by when they don't do at least three miles.

Not bad eh?

Daphne players can meet up at venues called gyms to join teams (tribes) and do battle! It's not all about wandering around the streets.

It s not sociable!! Bent double over your iPhone seeking a virtual thing instead of looking up and SEEING the real world about you?
Virtual reality is rapidly taking over from the real thing.

Aw come on! It's good fun, a sociable activity and you are outdoors walking around. Each to their own.

I saw people walking around yesterday eyes firmly fixed on their phones, how they do not get run over I do not know. What a terrible waste of time get a life you anoraks.

I am sick anyway of the 99% of the population who walk around with their heads down bent over their phones, blithely risking life and limb - and not only their own. Do we really need a "game" where people have lost the use of their own eyes?
Perhaps they will all grow an extra pair of eyes on the top of their heads and avoid stepping in dog poo or barging into me

Part of my "education " yesterday was that you don't have To go into buildings to capture them so the loos and modesty are safe.

I got quite a shock yesterday. We were out for a meal with DD, GS and SiL when DH made a joke about this Pokemon thing. SiL said "Oh, DD knows all about that - she has it on her phone and she's obsessed with it!" She looked very embarrassed and then said she'd only downloaded it as a joke, but she had taken GS and one of his friends to the park on a Pokemon hunt and it was fun. He is not allowed to do it, though. She is a highly educated, down to earth, sensible lady without, I thought, a frivolous side to her nature! Who knew! I made her promise not to walk into traffic; or walls; or gents urinals!
