Nanaandgrampy, your GD sounds a bit like mine who is 13 going on 20 - an assertive young woman. soop, what lovely deer pictures. Isn't it a privilege to have wild creatures come so close and trust you?
I've been out at a friend's 70th birthday party, a hog roast held in her huge garden and miraculously the rain held off all the time we were there. A hog roast isn't the greatest thing for a veggie but I was supplied with a veg pasty instead.
Now I'm watching the women's doubles final. Seems to me that Venus Williams is the weaker link - she often puts balls in the net that Serena would put away with ease.

Lovely images, babies, sunsets and the deer and a laugh triggered by n&g's granddaughter. Just what I needed. Heard that a friend has died. A long and we always knew terminal illness but the sadness can't be prevented. I am so sorry I can't be with his wife, widow now, to support her, too far away to do very much. She knows I would want to and for now that has to be enough along with the telephone. I try to think of death as a part of life, as my father did, hard sometimes to have that matter of fact outlook. I broke a glass just after I heard, got so angry about it, but of course displaced anger. There is much to be thankful for and I am trying to move my thinking there while allowing space for the sadness too. Getting there. Tomorrow will be easier. Thinking about gifts as far as I know our DGC send a thank you for gifts, well they do to us and so I assume they do to others. The littlest one sent a photo via what's app - now that's what I call a bright one year old . We also thank others for a gift, it takes little time and it is important to acknowledge the care behind the gift, or that's what we believe. Not happy about the football takeover is Sunday, still the end is nigh! We plan a meal and a film, who needs a varied tv schedule? Enjoy if you like sport. Good job we aren't all the same .

N&G I also was laughing when I read what that minx of a GD came out with!

I discovered by accident that Tara decided to spend the majority of the day asleep on my bed but I did not discover that until I went upstairs to get ready for the birthday party. She sneaked outdoors early evening- I only hope that she returns at a reasonable hour. Last night it was close to 10pm. when the recalcitrant girl returned.

Fantastic pics Soop, all we get around here are foxes! I had one of those half steps for outside the back door and yesterday morning when I drew the curtains I saw it about 10 feet away from my flat and badly chewed by the young foxes ! had to bin it as it was badly damaged.

On the matter of a thank you notes....it matters, it's polite, it's an acknowledgement.

The sleepover went beautifully thanks Corner. She's growing into such a peach , I love her to bits. We found some lovely bits for her and she looked so grown up !!

Mind you I had to chuckle, she was talking about her mummy having a lot of ironing. I suggested she might like to help now she's old enough. To which she shook her head sadly and said...and I quote ...no Mummy think I should have a normal childhood !!

I looked at her and said ' Realllllly???????

She grinned and said ' No but I THINK that's what she should say!!'

At least you'll get cake Charley lol but in answer to your question ours still write letters and it starts as son as they are able to understand. Its a scribble from the 2 year old with translation by Mum , a picture from the 4 year old of what ever it was he got. A short letter from our 6 year old and the 9 year old now sends an email !!

But there are no excuses and my daughters are strict about it. The thinking is a) people like to know you received their gift and b) its good manners.

As always dear soop your photos turn me pea green with envy. I would like a deer at the bottom of my garden ...but its unlikely [smile}

Bellanonna The ferry passes the Paps of Jura at the same time each evening. I like the way the rays shine on it, almost like a spotlight.

soop those sunsets and early a.m. pictures are spectacular and each one that you post is always different from every other one. Great variety. How lovely to see the deer so close too.
Charleygirl there was a thread a while back about unacknowledged gifts. It seems that this is becoming more commonplace. I think it's unacceptably rude, and as you say, we were made to write a letter, in my case either on my birthday, or on Boxing Day. These days it could be an email or a phone call. My girls always did and I can see the grandchildren doing the same when they can. In the meantime we get notes from both mums with a splodgy "signature" from the child. Maybe you could just ask the birthday girl if she got your money gift safely and what will she buy? I'd be cross !

Daphne that baby is the most handsome fellow I have seen for ages. He is bright and will keep everybody on their toes. Daddy will get a few nights well earned rest. I am sure that Grace will find a quiet spot for herself.

I've searched for the hand-fed deer pics. No joy. I shall ask MacS if he has images on the old computer.

Charleyg We used to hand feed apple to the deer. I shall try to look out a photo. The forest has a plentiful supply of food and we made the decision not to encourage them to leap over the fence and wander onto the road.

The deer is gorgeous- why does it come to the fence? I assume if you went close that it would scarper.

soop yes, tomorrow will be a very difficult match and Andy will have to play the match of his life. Both want desperately to win it but Andy has the edge having been there before. At least Andy had an easier match than Milos so hopefully will have a decent rest today.

Her new cat flap clatters a bit after she comes in and she looks behind her to see who has the temerity to enter her house.

I am going to a local neighbour's birthday party later- she is 9 going on 19. Her birthday was a couple of weeks ago but it obviously was not convenient to have it then.

Have children stopped saying thanks for in this case, money given? Not a personal thanks and certainly not a hand written note. My parents made me send personal written thank yous for birthdays and Christmas.

I have noticed that the football match is being shown both on BBC1 and ITV tomorrow evening. I think that is very unfair considering the number of people who do not like watching it.
