I do think we have got to an age where we deserve a bit of selfishness. Plus, if we don't treat ourselves now, when are we going to, or who else will? I am holding out for more than a free garlic cheese bread from my son this year though!

I have never bought myself a birthday present but once on our wedding anniversary I bought myself a bouquet of flowers and walked home with a huge smile on my face. My husband is very thoughtful in some ways but not very good with presents.

Funny you should ask that today. It is my birthday today and I have just been into town and bought myself 3 bras and a pair of jeans. DH 'does not do birthdays' and is a dead loss - so each year I go to the sales and treat myself. He does manage a card - but for the last 2 years he has torn out the words on the inside sheet and just signed with a few xxx's. My family and friends all remember and make lovely gestures - I guess I am used to DH's response by now and just do my darnedest to enjoy my day regardless.Tonight I will be sharing a bottle of wine with a friend...

I do drop hints. Especially to my sister. She asks me, but I can never think of anything right then!
So I said, this time, that I'd been looking for a eucalyptus tree.....hope she takes me up on it, it usually works. And I want to go and fly my kite on the day, so I hope it's fine....and that I don't sound selfish!

If I didn't buy my own present I wouldn't get one.

I have ordered my bag!! I went for a colour called shark instead of aquamarine. I got cold feet. I hope it is as pretty as it looks on the website. It is by Modalu , never heard of them but I trust JL.A large clutch bag.

I absolutely agree with buying your own present! For my Ruby Wedding anniversary, I bought myself, in the absence of both husband and sparkly offering, an original painting of hares, which, had he still been alive, I would have bought for J. It hangs in my kitchen and is a reminder of what was and what could have been.

I asked for some perfume from my husband, he asks my daughter to get it for me and gives my daughter the money, that way I get the perfume I like

I started buying myself Bday and Christmas pressies after my divorce awhile ago now. Usually Chanel no 5. Im now remarried and we always buy pressies for each other....even if we actually get them ourselves ! ?

I have to and I do. It was my birthday last week and I bought myself some new net curtains. I managed to give the measurements for the main curtains rather than the nets and they're bevelled at the bottom so I've had to cut the top off and re-sew the seamed top on so it didn't turn out to be such a treat but I've actually enjoyed doing it so I might do some sewing again. The machines been in a cupboard for about 10 years.

I also paid to have my flat spring cleaned which cheered me up.

My ex was no good at presents for me, so he was no loss! I like to treat myself since I have all the 'things' I want or need. Several times recently I have given myself a ticket for an opera, having developed an appreciation for that genre quite late in life. It doesn't have to be for a birthday. Any time is good for a treat!

Always do. Never able to think or anything to tell others what I want for birthdays etc at the time. Usually somewhere along the way I see something that I think is a bit extravagant - not needed - so it becomes my birthday or Christmas present to me. Several years ago I bought a cardigan costing much more than I would normally spend and it was also different to the basic boring ones I normally buy. I still love it and have had lots of wear out of it. Well worth the money spent.

DH has mild dementia so if I don't buy myself something I won't get anything!?????? ??

The only present I want for my milestone 60th is 'work done' on the craggy rock face. No one is going to buy me that and when I mentioned it to the DH he said, 'But then you will run off with a twenty year old.' Not considering the implausibility of said venture, I can think of nothing worse than the company of a sanctimonious, narcissistic snowflake. The 'work' would be entirely for me.

I haven't spent my pension lump sum yet...

However, I imagine I will count my blessings and get on with eroding and fissuring.
