John Lewis sell the brushes without having to buy the whole thing, you can carry on using the holder but a new brush screws on to the handle.

I buy very cheap ones and change them frequently. I pour bleach and water into the holder every so often and then pour the bleach down the toilet and scrub.

How can you not own one, I use it every time. My anatomy and the loo were not designed for each other. When we disinfect the loo, we leave the brush in for a while. Must watch the sitting on it, painful.

It's a loo brush and proprietary loo cleaner for me. I'm not frightened of the brush sitting there between cleaning sessions. I don't use it anywhere but down the loo after all and nothing's going to jump up and get me while I'm in the bathroom. If the brush was seething with dangerous, aggressive germs, we'd be ill all the time! To save yourself from danger, make sure you shut the lid before you flush. All that tumbling water creates an aerosol that floats round the bathroom for quite a distance. Keep your toothbrush in a cupboard! ?

OH gave the loo a good clean once then left the brush in the bowl to give it a soak. Unfortunately, I came rushing on, didn't notice the brush, sat down and - well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

No, never owned one, never felt the desire! Hands down the loo....far !ore efficient!

I've seen one that's sort of flat plastic shaped like a spoon and is supposed to have silver in it which is antibacterial - it goes right up under the rim to clean but haven't tried it. I clean the toilet with the brush and bleach so the brush should be clean as well but do buy new ones fairly regularly. Also have some powder stuff that you pour in and it foams up to clean and smells nice.

I use the Milton tablets for baby bottles in the loo.One in the loo and when we go way leave one on the plug hole in hand basins and sinks etc to keep the drain sweet as they say. The tablets are good for Le creuset casseroles if I've used a red wine in the casserole. Comes up a treat.

I was told to throw a couple of Steradent tablets down the Loo to clean the bowl. I believe I also heard somewhere that Cola cleans well too.

When I was house-hunting last year I found I was really put off any house where there was a toilet brush in view (even though I had them myself), so from then on I have kept one but it's well hidden.

What I don't understand is why some of those brushes have to be so hard. What on earth are we supposed to be scrubbing off? Years of filth or just the occasional bit of poo that has escaped the flush?

My Granny got on her hands and knees every week, removed the water with a cloth, squeezing it into a bucket, then gave the bowl a good sprinkling of Vim before scrubbing it until it shone.

I wouldn't go that far, but surely a bit of a scrub with an abrasive sponge (using Marigolds, of course!) works better than a stick of rigid bristles.

Well, since we are at it, as it were. One of my sils has no brush in the toilets- so what is onw expected to do if there is a bit of .. you know what, left in the bowl? Use loo paper? Ok if above water but then

I have brushes, and always shake the brush well in flush water, clean the container and bleach regularly- what is the problem?

I've never thought about it before either and I spent a fortune matching them to the various bathrooms, from JL no less - can't afford to do that often.

Do you know, I have never in all my years really thought about it. A quick scrub with the loo brush, rinse the brush, and all is well. Been like that for donkeys years.

breeze I bought black ones in Ikea and found them even more unsettling....I just stick plenty of bleach down and scrub a bit if necessary.

I have a rather smart-looking loo brush in stainless steel that I use as an emergency receptacle for flowers. Minus the brush bit, obvs..

Leave soaking in bleach in the loo after scrubbing and replace often. They are cheap as chips. I thought I'd be clever and buy some black ones but now I can't tell if they're clean! Dishwasher! Nooooooo! Yuk!

Look on Amazon jingle - lots of pink brushes on there!

I never give mine a thought. Bit pissed off that the gorgeous bright pink holder from M and S is starting to corrode.

Strangely there are lots of things you can do with a dishwasher besides washing dishes.
You can cook fish wrapped in foil obviously, and I am sure I have read other things you can do but none spring to mind right now except the fish trout or salmon sir? with a toilet brush garnish...
