David Dimbleby

Last night's QT was very poor. Surely this week of all times we should have had a panel of political heavyweights representing five parties instead of a right wing journalist, a so-called comedian and three politicians, none of whom were on good form.

The questions were muddled repetitive and not well structured and David Dimbelby was dreadful.

Jon Snow is my major irritant. He shouts everyone down with his own views and interrupts so rudely. Yesterday he was interviewing a.Labour man, a Labour woman and Alistair Cambell. He was very rude to the woman and .more or less cut her out when she disagreed with him and was showing signs of being feisty. He really is too important for his own good.

I'm just fed up with MPs being allowed to not answer questions.It must be so frustrating for the audience member who asked the question. This happened all the time throughout the referendum debates.

If Question Time got rid of Dimbleby, they might end up with someone worse - Evan Davis for instance! Now he REALLY gets up my nose for interrupting and talking over people. I used to like him when he was on the Today programme, but since he moved to Newsnight, don't get me started!!

Full of self-importance, pompous and irritating. That's part of the problem with nepotism, you end up with the whole flippin'family through generations. I just switch to another channel when he pops up.

I feel quite differently. I'm fed up with Question Time and think the only good thing about it is David Dimbleby. He is very well informed and can pin panellists down on statements they have made in the past or if they're giving incorrect information. Why on earth should he be "pensioned off" - he is, in my opinion, a good natured but very astute presenter.

Not keen on John Humphreys though.

And another thing, I've just watched Jon Snow, you can add him to my list of arrogant beggars, if he doesn't like what you say, he ignores you, pah!

David can be intrusive at times but Jonathan is the one who irritates me more. It's always a relief whe he is in holiday and the Blessed Eddie Mair takes over. David is actually very nice. My husband taught him to sing Tiptoe through the tulips in a tulip field in Lincolnshire when they were filming Portrait of Britain for which our daughter was the researcher. Unsurprisingly it didn't make the final edit!

Bez. - I agree, used to really rate QT but over the last couple of years I've gradually lost interest. R4 Any Questions sticks to the point better and actually gets somewhere, far better I reckon.

Radio 4 Question Time is much better IMO.
Younger Dimbleby is a better chair man and the answers are informative.
I now listen to Radio 5 Live instead of Radio 4.

It's a shame other interviewers/commentators are not given a chance. What will happen if there is no other Dimbleby to take over Jonathon/David's shoes? Will the BBC fall apart?

I am so glad so many agree with me about David Dimbleby. Question Time has become the Dimbleby Hour and he spoils panellists' responses by butting in before they have finished. Yes, he can ask questions but wait until they have finished and cut out the bias. He really should remember he is the Chairman, not the extra panellist. He is always saying they should speak one at a time so the audience and viewers can hear them properly then does exactly the same himself. Grrrrr.

I think it is the BBC who sets the tenor of the discussion. I've noticed lately that Andrew Marr has started fastening on to a question until it is answered how he thinks fit. On Sunday Jeremy Corbyn gave simple explanation about refufgees adn said the a country just has to build more schools or hospitals if needed like Labour did, and Andrew Marr kept on repeating his question.
Brendan Cox said that the power of the voluntary sections of the local people should be encouraged and supported Then you have the man hours to cope with refugees. Then people are busy doing something for others - a very human trait which makes them feel good about themselves. All this is lacking from the Brexit debate. Its sickening. So mean-spirited and selfish.

The Chair of our village WI could do a better job than either DD,John Humphrys or Sarah Montague. They are arrogant and patronising. DD gives his opinion as if he is one of the panel. Doesn't he realise he should be impartial.

Oh! I so agree - John Humphreys has become unbearable, interrupting and talking over all the interviewees - and Sarah Montague is almost as bad - well, maybe worse - her voice is a little shrill! When they're on, I relinquish catching up on all the news and go over to Radio 3 - mainly calm and mellifluous over there!

He really annoys me too.
Poor David Cameron did not need his interference when answering the questions.

I like DD but NOT most of the panel on QT .....that is why I would throw things at the tv .....they have recently been more annoying than ever ...never answer the questions (well, they are politicians ! seems to be part of their remit !)) and quite often DD has to remind them of the original question. With the referendum at the moment the arguments and shouting over each other is, to be honest, boring ! Not normally given to praising Jeremy Corbyn, I did think last nights Q & A session about the referendum was the most informative I have seen ...no shouting, putting down other politicians ( in or out )and answering the questions to the best of his ability ! AND he was virtually the ONLY one to mention ex pats ....we have by and large been left TOTALLY in the dark ...even those of us who still have a UK vote ! Totally unacceptable !

I really like David Dimbleby, but do agree that he can be irritating. But it's the Chairman's job to move the discussion along.
My claim to fame is that I once spoke to him on the phone in connection with my job at that time. He was so friendly and charming that I have loved him ever since.

Sometimes, though, they have to move the discussion along, or ensure that particular points are made or questions put. I thought Dimbleby, D did this rather well with both Gove and Cameron.

Though I noted that DC didn't directly answer the Turkey veto question, I thought he did better than Gove overall.

He's been doing it for years, supposed to be chairing the panel. I wonder why the BBC haven't done anything about him.

It's about time David Dimbleby was pensioned off! Have you noticed that he sits on a higher chair than the rest of the panel on QT?
You don't see any women his age in prominent presenting jobs!

A good chairman knows just when to interrupt and move the debate on, but he seems to have lost that ability (if he ever had it).
