Midsomer murders runs here in Germany, too, but then so do the Skandinavian murder stories, which probably don't give a typical view of those countries either.
Topically, the football coverage gives a very bad impression of football in the UK, whereas I'm sure most clubs have really jolly sessions during matches.
Downton Abbey is showing all over the world - I am sure foreigners take that with a pinch of salt, too.
I don't watch TV here but I'll go through the programme and come back with a list of English-speaking programmes which are shown. Not that they would help anyone learn English: they are all dubbed, but many documentaries are just spoken over, so you can hear the original voices quietly in the background.
