ab do you really think getting rid of our Royal Family together with all the pageantry that goes with it, would heal all the ills of this country? Are you really that naieve narrow minded?

I for one, enjoy a bit of colour in life. And if it comes from the goings on of the Royal family, whether it comes from outside the gates of Buck House or the pages of the Mail online, so be it.

I'm truly sorry for the people living on the streets. But anniebach you can keep your grey tenements that you would probably have us all living in, and the grey life you would have us all inhabit. They tried that lifestyle in the USSR, and it didn't seem to work too well.

I don't give a damn sorry. I admit to anger at the hypocrisy of the windsors, so queenie shed a tear when she lost her yacht, how sad,she must have found comfort in the fact she still had a home and three holiday homes .

This is a country where a woman who dedicated her life to the people lives a decadent life style as does her extended family , whilst some of the people sleep on the streets, u have to use food banks , some children go hungry , mental health services are in crisis, children with mental health problems cannot have medical help. People die every winter because they cannot afford heating.

There is no civil list as there use to be, the queen gets the lot and hands it out to her family. William and Harry are supported by their father so doesn't cost the country? Their father gets his money from the Duchy , this belongs to the people but he gets the benefits because it goes with a title , so we do keep that family.

We pay for protection for over fifteen homes and for bodyguards for this large group of benefit dependant family whilst disabled people lose their mobility allowances .

The birthday party in the Mall, where guests, many who represented charities had to pay £150 per head.

I am baffled so many intelligent people here believe the Windsor PR machine . Are proud of the banquets held to impress visitors sod those sleeping on pavements , some from the armed forces the windsors allegedly care deeply for. And the queen turns up for church every Sunday , what hypocrisy .

So post as many insults as you wish fans of this family of leeches , I really don't care

I think because it was not used for just an occasional holiday, it was used for affairs of state, networking with foreign dignitaries, trying to encourage trade between countries etc etc.
If the taxpayer had bought a new one, it still would not have belonged to the Queen and would have been used for other purposes too.

I don't think foreign presidents, diplomats, etc would have been too impressed if HM had offered them a night or two on that old car ferry she chartered to sail around the Western Isles.

That makes more sense - I thought it was about ex-pms as in the post immediately before yours. Mind you, the president and his family, and ex-presidents, still have to be protected. Ex-presidents seem to live long lives, and keep their fingers in whatever is going on.

I was perhaps being a little facetious.

Why, Linsco? Would we leave ex-presidents without any protection? On second thoughts, that would be a good way to stop them interfering, just cut the protection and let the assassins get rid of them.

Then perhaps time to consider a Presidency.

Apparently it costs the taxpayer £6m a year to protect former PM Blair...

And of course there are all the other ex PMs who probably don't gad about as much, but it all mounts up!
