I wrote a comment on Mumsnet the other day referring to a GN thread, thinking I was on GN. This web stuff is starting to get too complicated for me.

So is not just me !

Re graphic language, I found myself on mums net by accident and wondered What, if anything , is discussed about us parents/ grandparents so had a look. There wasnt much, We Dont figure much but what I did see on one particular post really shocked me with the aggressive posts from the majority of responders about the posters mum (who was providing both financial and childcare assistance.)
We all do our best for our children, far more childcare than certainly I or my friends ever got, help out financially if we can and from what I read this particular gran did not deserve the vitriol which was dished out. Felt quite sad.

I know, the language used is diabolical. Did we really raise our offspring to come out with such things? I fear not.

Yes grannylyn65 I've decided confusing people around me is my new career objective for retirement.

I lurk around mumsnet quite a lot in my continual search for clues about how today's education system works for struggling children like my DGS.

I think the most depressing thread recently was one abut why older people (as in over 65) don't go to Ikea. Among the apparently perfectly serious replies was the idea that Ikea is usually situated on Motorways and ring roads which would be too confusing for us older people and the fact that they wouldn't be able to find the loos in time.

Quite apart from the fact that I was negotiating motorways before these people were born and I worked out the short cuts in Ikea many years ago, I found myself wondering if these posters actually knew any one over 65.

Lyndylou - I don't drive so was delighted to find the Coventry IKEA, free train with bus pass and short walk or bus journey. Sure I found a loo if I needed one!! All those things I didn't realise I needed!!

Mumsnet- I was surprised at so many obscene board names, apparently it's to prevent the dreaded DM publicising their threads. The language of some posters is also scattered with obscenities and the actual comments of some very harsh.

Being on here first the difference is quite striking. Also they seem to get a lot of fake or hoax threads started by posters termed 'trolls'. Pointless and pathetic attention seeking. I thought online trolls were usually people targeting or stalking other people, this seems to be a different definition.

Silverlining - MILs often seem to attract hostility, sometimes apparently well deserved but of course their point of view isn't there.

As for the confusion, a sticker on my front door says ' Do not disturb, I am already disturbed!' It has caused much hilarity, until of course they realise it is true

Grannylyn65 It was what my father always called me. He was a great musician, very interested in all music, so it's nice to know it comes from a song.
