I have a jacket for summer made of 50% polyester and 50% modal with a lining of 100% polyester.

The label says dry clean, but i am tempted to put on the gentle cycle of machine.

Has anyone else any experience of doing this please.

I usually wash dry clean only by hand then spin and put on a hanger to dry...never had any problems...

I can't see any problem with washing the jacket on a gentle machine cycle - none of the materials need dry-cleaning. I think the manufacturers just stick these labels in to cover their backs.

I agree Ana and I have washed all sorts of things that say Dry Clean Only ( in fact I regard it as a challenge) washing all the curtains in the house last Autummn.Do things on a gentle cycle, I have a 30 min wash at 30, that does the job really well.

I have a soft hat that says "dry clean only" hats get wet don't they, so I can't see why I can't hand wash it cool.

If it says dry clean and I feel that I can get away with washing I use a wool wash with maybe an extra rinse. To date I have not been disappointed.

A very dapper friend of mine was rinsing through his rather snug fitting, designer label swimming trunks when he noticed that the label said ' Dry Clean Only' ! ?
