Blimey, what a pickle. It sounds as if you feel backed into a corner and really have little choice unless there can be some last minute work change for the better as your DH won't give up his concert. Does the meeting tomorrow really have to happen? I guess it does or you would have had that re-arranged already. It is a shame that your carefully worked out plans to make the trip if not enjoyable at least comfortable enjoyable have been sabotaged. I don't understand the work situation, how it has come to take over, but it feels like seriously conflicting priorities and that perhaps your DH is giving little thought to the potential impact on you both. Is he angry because he knows it's a bad idea to go and he should have kept a tighter control on work commitments? If there is no one else who would or could go in your shoes I would be doing as you say, going along because the worry of not would be worse. I wish I could see a less damaging way through but so sorry I can't so can only hope you can rest for the remainder of the week.

You know you will be going so aim to make it as comfortable and bearable for your self as you can....you might even enjoy it! Sounds like your DH is in denial about his health and age?? Going to see BS reliving his youth!

You have all my sympathy. I would not want to go either; not just because of all the rushed travelling, but also because my life, like yours it would seem, is entirely complete without Bruce Springsteen!

You are in a Catch 22 - if you leave him to go on his own you will worry about him; if you go with him, you will not enjoy it and you will suffer physically.

Having said that I have gone to concerts (indeed everything) on my own for years,as OH has PD - I have to say that doing these things alone does not bother me one whit - I am sure he would be fine - he's a big boy!

Hope you manage to resolve this - I wish you lots of luck!

DH bought tickets for a big stadium concert in February-I don't particularly like the performer (Bruce Springsteen) but I often go to these things to keep DH company. He's quite sociable but doesn't do the close male friend thing, so he doesn't have anyone else to go with.

So far, so good-we were going to drive down today (3.5 hour drive), check into our hotel, taxi to and from the venue then drive home at our leisure tomorrow. Now this is where it starts going pear shaped. Due to changing work commitments DH cannot get away until 2.30 this afternoon and also has a meeting tomorrow. Work arrangements have been very fluid this week so our window for travelling has become narrower and narrower. He is now planning to drive down straight to the venue (Hampden Park) at 2.30 for concert start at 6.30 and drive back home afterwards. We will be driving or sitting for around 12 consecutive hours-him on top of early start today and busy morning/early afternoon, me on top of very bad night worrying about today. This is a man who has had 2 heart attacks, is on a hefty dose of various medications and also has PVD. I don't know how I'm going to manage this as sitting for long periods can be painful, and it also triggers restless legs due to pressure on nerves. I was at physio last night and told her-apart from saying it was a mad idea she also agreed that I'm going to suffer for this. I can't let him go alone as I'll be worrying all the time about him falling asleep at the wheel. He's totally uncompromising (unreasonable and angry actually) if I try to suggest that perhaps we shouidn't be going. In fact we're barely speaking this morning. I feel as if I'm facing an Everest of effort to cope and I'm dreading it.
