Saw the film as a Times preview, interesting to see a film with no reviews so I was keen to read what the press thought of it. I enjoyed the film, very amusing, but surprised to learn it had 5* rating, Often my opinion and that of reviewers are poles apart. Had not read the novella.Kate Beckinsale is delightful as Lady Susan.

I also love 'Lady Susan' and want to see the film. I have a matched set of JA's almost full works inherited from an aunt and I got Lady Susan out for a re-read a couple of weeks ago, but got led astray by the other books in the set!

Saw an excellent review of this (Love and Friendship) yesterday, which reminded me of the original novella, Lady Susan, written entirely in letter form. For anyone who hasn't read it, it's a deliciously acid and funny portrayal of a scheming and manipulative anti-heroine baggage, quite unlike her other works. I read yesterday that she was only 19 when she wrote it!

I went mad trying to find the book last night - we have so many crammed shelves in this house - and eventually downloaded a 0p Amazon copy on to my Kindle to read in bed!

Anyway, that film is now a must-see for me.
