G&T, I'm glad your brain tumour isn't causing problems. Even benign ones can be a problem: my dad had a benign cyst but it caused problematic blockages that prevented cerebrospinal fluid from getting around. It was successfully removed but he reckoned they cut his short term memory out too

Soop, the brain tumour has never worried me, it is benign and only if it grows could it become a problem, it is also easily operable should it be necessary.
Getting around the dance floor without stepping on Mrs P's toes is far more worrying.

Alea, so sorry it had to be aborted, but better safe than sorry, but it is a bummer after all the build up.

Aren't body bits strange...I've one leg shorter than the other, one eye stronger than the other, one bun bigger than the other. Sigh!

So sorry, Alea. You have been through so much and you must be tired and frustrated yourself and concerned for your DH. It must be hard on your DDs too, feeling helpless to do as much as they would like to do for you both.

Alea I've just this minute caught up with news of the aborted procedure. The specialist knows best. It's far safer for your husband to remain where his condition can be monitored. I was hoping that you would be returning home together. The NHS is first class. Your husband is in expert hands. I'm sorry that you will continue to be stressed. Please keep us updated.

Sorry to hear that Alea - sometimes uncertainty is worse than knowing for sure, even if it's bad news.

I'm managing so much better than I thought I would - this time last week I couldn't see how I was ever going to get out of the clothes I was wearing, let alone get clean. But I can wash and dress myself now, make a cup of tea, feed myself, go for a walk on my own - and I brought in my bins without any help! Counting my blessings madly

They are not going to reattempt it. In itself, the procedure, while a Good Thing, was not a lifesaver and if the risks involved outweigh any possible advantage, I am in full agreement with their decision.
One question is why he went downhill so rapidly under anaesthetic, as he has had longer, operations (much longer - liver transplant was over 7 hours heart valve and aortic graft about the same) so that is why they are keeping him under observation. Like all things medical which do not go to plan, a bit worrying.

Oh heck (or similar!) Alea. Do they have a plan B?

I am hoping that you can have a restful evening with Grace, put your feet up and do zilch. With luck you will sleep well tonight if it is not too humid, ready for another day.

DH's procedure had to be abandoned unfortunately. they came up against a problem or two and It wasn't going to be straightforward, but when the anaesthetist felt his condition was giving cause for concern it was decided to come out for his safety.
Annoying, but there you go.
He will be staying in overnight for observation, but should be able to come home tomorrow.
Just as well I stayed.

No wonder that what we used to call 'buns' in my childhood have now been renamed 'cupcakes'
Alea, I'm glad you didn't have to drive into Oxford and with luck the public transport system won't be too traumatic.

What a stressful time. I hope you will be able to TRY to relax when the procedure is over and a large glass of whatever will do the trick.

Yes, buses go into the centre of Oxford from just near the main entrance/exit to JR, then you can get the MK bus from there. Or, taxis can be easily contacted, there is a special phone through to taxi company on the info desk.

Thank you all. DH is dozing quietly waiting his turn. Just keeping fingers crossed it all goes ahead, although his temperature is back to his more normal 35.something, but awaiting the results of full set of bloods.
Once it is done I need to work out a way home, assuming bus into Oxford ? then the X5 to MK. coachway and hope somebody can pick me up. I'll be making good use of my bus pass!

Alea I agree with every word that Galen has said- you must look after yourself- Grace will agree with me as her needs have to be catered for also.

That is quite a journey today but you are going by the best method of transport so that removes some of the stress. You will both collapse when you come back home but it is so nice to be home again with a lovely doggy welcome.

GandTea that is sort of good news that the tumour has not progressed. I do hope that they find the cause of your kidney pain but at least it is not what you thought it may be. That is one big relief.

It is so humid here and the heavens look as though they are about to open.

I've had an official update on my brain tumour, no change, and in the consultants opinion as it hasn't changed in 4 years, is very unlikely to, but they will keep monitoring, they did change my drugs a little but otherwise nothing

The same consultant also gave me an unofficial update on my kidney scan, no stones, no obstruction, so what the hell is causing the pain (but it is not what I had feared). Waiting to see the urologist.
