Here we are again...happy as can be...all good friends and jolly good company.

A very warm welcome to one and all. smile flowers wine brew cupcake

Oh dear ^Alea*- you certainly do not want wasp stings. Next week appears to be a long way away but at least Fred is coming. You do have a lovely neighbour if he is going to attempt to remove the wire wool. I would probably have stuffed paper inside so you are not alone.

I missed you mentioning earlier that sleep is not on the horizon in the new baby household. I wonder why young Flynn will not settle down? I certainly do not envy your DD and SiL. I think we know who rules that roost and he is no age yet!

soop Sat 28-May-16 18:00:33

Alea Fred sounds like a knight in shining armour...he'll need it! Please do stay away from the wire wool.

Our friend will be in touch just as soon as she has updated news on her husband's condition. This is our friend's third stroke. It sounds more serious than his previous episodes. He's been in the care home for fifteen months. His twin (also a dear pal) died a year ago. When she died, her husband (another very good friend of ours) went into a "decline" with dementia. He's away in another hospital being assessed. He was taken from the care home about five weeks ago. So much sadness in our wee village. The residents rally and do their utmost to be usefully supportive. We are very lucky to be part of the community.

Time for me to log off. It's a glorious evening. Time for G&T and read the newspaper.

Until tomorrow...take very good care of yourselves. smile moon

Alea Sat 28-May-16 21:47:32

Right. I managed to hoick the wire wool out of the hole with the help of a very long garden cane and a sort of 3-pronged long handled weeding/hoeing implement - you can tell I am an experienced gardener - so that the little buggers waspies can fly in and out until Fred the Rat Man does for them next week.
My principal objection is not merely the presence of a nest somewhere in the wall cavity, but that the blighters chomp their way through my expensive teak garden furniture! (They regurgitate what they have hoovered up as the fine paper with which they make their nest).
Well not with my garden table you don't!
Has this happened to others among you ? I was horrified when I saw the long gouge marks 2 years ago and couldn't use the table and seating as it was crawling with wasps (shudder)

Tizliz Sat 28-May-16 21:56:26

Numberplease soop has also painted one of our dogs - the one who sadly died early this year, much admired by all my visitors

cornergran Sat 28-May-16 21:58:04

Wow. Alea 1:wasps 0. You're braver than I am that's for sure. No experience of wasps eating tables, just of them eating me and discovering I'm allergic to the wretched things. Hope the rat man can evict them for you. Good luck.

NanaandGrampy Sun 29-May-16 01:54:46

Good Evening all!

Crafting and Corner please feel free to borrow Sam. He's a well travelled chap, loves a good cuddle and is pretty easy to please!

Alea you do like to live dangerously!! We had a wasps nest in the eaves a few years ago and a very nice man came and sorted it out. Our little ones don't like wasps and we seemed to have so many.

It's been quiet and very hot here. Sadly, I got bitten on my foot by something called a no-see-em! Tiny little bites but they ITCH incessantly !! So while Grampys gout is much improved I'm am sat here with a bag of ice on my foot numbing the darn things!!

Our daughter her husband and the boys got home safely and Cooper went down with a cold and Jackson started vomiting. So it was an eventful arrival. Three hours later it looked like this ..........

NanaandGrampy Sun 29-May-16 01:55:19

Oooooops ......picture!

cornergran Sun 29-May-16 02:28:56

Oh dear n&g, and after such a lovely holiday. Hope they are all better soon. I'm awake and very sorry for myself with 'Granflu' - much worse than the other kinds ? Sleep would help fix it I'm sure but my body doesn't seem to agree, just made a brew and got some more drugs, if you see what I mean, perhaps I will settle now.

Hope the itchy foot settles so you can enjoy the rest of your holiday and the little boys are soon back to their usual sunny selves.

cornergran Sun 29-May-16 03:06:17

n&g forgot to say thank you for the offer of Sam. Gratefully accepted, maybe a cuddle would help me sleep. Although he probably wouldn't want to be with such a grumpy soul. ?

kittylester Sun 29-May-16 08:38:23

Good morning all! I've brought comforting crumpets with me.

I hope your foot is feeling better n&g and that you feel better soon corner flowers.

I'm assuming that there are no wasps in here shock and I hope that you hear some news of your friend soon soop. flowers

I'm just going to sit in here with my crumpets and try to relax before I need to go and see mum. We went out with one of my brothers and his wife last night and heard about yet more of my mother's horrendous machinations. My lovely, gentle sil was in tears and I am still boiling angry

And breathe kitty and breathe. sunshine

cornergran Sun 29-May-16 09:05:03

Thank you for the thought kitty, sadly the throat isn't liking solids at the moment! Water is good for me I understand smile. Feel a bit less pathetic than I did in the night so will stir myself and remove some weeds. Waking nights seem to magnify symptoms unkindly, a sunny morning has them feeling at least bearable - as long as I don't eat! Sorry there is more distress for you and your family, hope you can find some calm and carry on coping. It seems a bumpy old roller coaster you are on. Sending you sunshine and a nice cool breeze to calm the boiling and help the breathing, enjoy those crumpets. My day will come smile.

Galen Sun 29-May-16 09:47:44

The noise level is deafening,,I've a whirlwind dressed as Elsa and another Elsa bouncing a stuffed octopus off her mummie's pregnant tummy and my lounge is in chaos!
Have you guessed what's happening?

annodomini Sun 29-May-16 10:16:32

Galen, I'm surprised that they let you have access to your i-Pad when they're around.

Alea Sun 29-May-16 10:17:56

Vicar dropped in for brunch, I assume grin

annodomini Sun 29-May-16 10:23:38

Wasps! they get you when you least expect them. I raised a glass (only water) in a pub and the creature got me on the hand; so there was water all over the table, floor and me. My poor GS once lifted a can of Coke to his lips, and a wasp, with a taste for the stuff, stung him in the mouth.
Sorry you're poorly, cornergran. I find that, contrary to most received wisdom, iced water is far more soothing to the throat than hot drinks. Worth trying anyway.

Galen Sun 29-May-16 10:58:33

Venetia has 2 of my old iPads so there's plenty to go round.
We're currently in a local softplay facility where the Elsas are running round and ( hopefully) expending energy. Just seen mummy + 2 kids come down a wavy slide, bump and all!
( shakes head and retreats into iPad with hot chocolate)

soop Sun 29-May-16 13:27:07

A very sunny and warm good morning to our dear Kitcheners

Galen A chaotic lounge can soon be sorted. Enjoy! Remember to breathe. Were you not tempted to go down the wavy slide? grin

NanaandGrampy The family photos speak volumes. It is a pity that having enjoyed a marvellous holiday the little ones returned home feeling poorly.
Your itchy foot must be a nuisance. I'm pleased to hear the Grampy's gout is less painful.

kitty Virtual flowers and (((gentle hugs a plenty))) especially for you.

cornergran Do you suffer from tonsillitis? Your throat sounds nasty. Plenty of fluids and rest. I hope that you begin to feel better before too long. sunshine

Alea Do take good care of yourself.
On the subject of wasps...many years ago, my Nana and I had a cream tea in the garden of a beautiful hotel beside the river in Oxford. Wasps were everywhere. And yet, they didn't appear to be aggressive. We ignored them.

We had a lovely walk earlier this morning. I took a few photos to share with you. The garden is looking lush.

Lona Sun 29-May-16 13:49:20

soop Lovely photos as usual and may I venture to say that Mr Soop is looking very well in that picture. He seems to have more colour in his cheeks sunshine
NanaandGrampy, those photos are so sweet of all the boys asleep. Hope your foot stops being itchy soon.
Cornergran Sore throats are horrible flowers

Alea I'd back you against a wasps nest any day! grin

soop Sun 29-May-16 13:55:54

Lona MacSporran blushed when I read your kind message. grin

Alea Sun 29-May-16 13:59:41

Things dogs are not very good at.
1) Hiding

Charleygirl Sun 29-May-16 14:35:48

Grace and the rug are a good match. I am seriously wondering if that young lady can actually stand?!

NanaandGrampy I will be dog napping Sam as well as Grace and some of the others we have seen. Sam would love the cuddles and attention- I think that I would be interfering with Grace's sleep pattern if I cuddled her.

I suppose if the children are going to be ill it may be better to be ill in their own home rather than abroad or on the flight home. Hopefully they will bounce back quickly and we will see two smiley faces.

I agree soop that MacSporran is definitely looking better. Superb photos once again of house and garden. Do you take in lodgers???!!!!

Cornergran where did you pick up this lurgy? Please look after yourself.

Galen that sounds like a day of hard work but enjoyable although that thought may enter your head after their departure and the place is quiet again.

cornergran Sun 29-May-16 15:02:08

Thank you all for the kind messages. I'll try not to bore too much by explaining. Sore throats are part of my makeup now. I'm a CFS/fibromyalgia person and find the slightest bug goes straight to the throat as well as sapping the energy, increasing pain and doing nothing for the temper! Usually I can accept and manage it, often the flare up lasts a month or more, the initial pain levels soon diminish if I'm lucky, but just sometimes I get angry and overwhelmed by it, which is where I was in the night. Getting angry doesn't help, it just uses up energy, so I've given myself a stern talking to and am being kinder to myself today and also proactive with pacing. Slow start, then 45 minutes in the garden followed by a very long rest. Off for a shower soon, then another rest and I should cope with (soft!) supper later as the throat has loosened a bit. Sorry for the moan last night, I don't usually but just sometimes.......... had this condition for 25 years+ - you really would think I would be used to it by now and not let it get to me. The throat will be with me for a while, the cold water dispenser in the fridge is working overtime - very good for the throat and the kidneys - the chocolate ice cream found lurking in the freezer has also been very good for the throat but especially the morale smile. Sorry, can't leave any, I think I ate it all. grin. I'll be more cheerful tomorrow as determined to sleep tonight.

Alea Sun 29-May-16 15:07:44

Big hug cornergran don't be too hard on yourself. And don't overdo things- there are no prizes for effort, sometimes you have to go with the flow and let your body heal itself. flowers

loopylou Sun 29-May-16 16:01:34

Here's a large tub of homemade lemon curd ice cream for you cornergran and any other lurking Kitcheners.
It's rather delicious (and probably calorie-free while it sits in the kitchen?) and the easiest recipe ever ?

I'm enjoying peace and quiet, I've been gardening, done the ironing and now I think I deserve a nice cup of tea.

I'm not sure I've seen Grace vertical in any photo so far.....?

Galen Sun 29-May-16 16:36:16

Recipe for lemon curd ice cream please?
