Thank you all. It's good to know other people feel the same.

As I'm a bit of control freak, I need to know whether I can do my shift in the library tomorrow, we have one of my brothers and Sil coming for supper, etc.

I mean, should I make the pudding or not? grin

Not insensitive, nina, at all. I feel exactly like that.

And, you are on a knife edge too Alea, thoughyours can only last so long! wine

kitty it is the limbo that's the worst part in my opinion. I used to jump every time the phone rang at this stage.
Sorry if I'm being insensitive but it was relief when the call did come.
Thinking of you and your family. Feel free to PM me if you need to flowerswine

This is exactly what I went through with my mother. Some days I didn't know whether I dared go home as she seemed to be so near the end and then the next day she'd be singing along to Frank Sinatra.

It's so emotionally draining. Hang on in there, kitty flowers

It is so bizarre sometimes. I know when my grandmother was well and truly on her way out - unconscious basically and had been for several days - she suddenly sat up (!) held a brief conversation with me, then lay down again and remained unconscious till she died. It was a bit freaky - I almost imagined that I had dreamt it!

kitty I am speechless, but truly feel it can't be long, can it? Perhaps "Hello, dear" is a standard response and one she hears from carers and nurses? But for you to be on this knife edge for all these months must be close to unbearable.
I hope the family can give you the respite and support (and regular infusions of wine ) that you need flowers

I don't know you, but my thoughts are with you. How hard it must be for you I cannot even imagine. I dread the day my mother reaches the end of the road xx

as she has been put back on end of life care and was unresponsive. Then my sister in law, whom mum dislikes preferring db's ex fiance from 30 years ago, said 'Hello, Babs' where upon Mum said 'hello dear!' and opened her eyes.shock
