The Jeremy Kyle show

I don't actually know anyone who watches this programme, some people will do anything for fifteen minutes of fame.

I used to watch it and thought it should have won an award for the Best Comedy Show on tele. Don't watch any more.

Nobody admits to watching Jeremy Kyle but people know enough about it to not watch so I guess we have all tuned in at some point, even for a few -hours-minutes {smile}

I don't make a habit of watching but sometimes when I do I find the subject matter really sad.

I thank my lucky stars that I am not the sort of person to even consider washing my dirty linen in public, but upon reading some of the topics on Gransnet where families prevent grandmothers from seeing their grandchildren , it isn't much different apart from the anonymity is it really.

I used to watch it when I first reitred if I had nothing else to do! I Find Kyle patronising, superior and downright insulting to the people he has on. I used to wonder why some of the participants would appear on TV without their teeth in, with greasy hair and obviously why would they go on in the first place.

I occasionally watch if I am ironing in the morning. I have called it a guilty pleasure on here in the past. I am, like others, appalled at the content. It beats me why anyone who knows they will fail a lie detector test would appear. Surely they don't think they can fool the machine. It certainly shows how the other half lives!

I think I saw a bit of that programme once.

He did a show in the US for awhile I'm glad he went back home!

I think it is a vile programme that exploits people don't have the self-awareness to realise they're being exploited or the money to pay for professional counselling.

True, but to be fair they probably wouldn't consider that they needed professional counselling anyway.

I do sneak a guilty peek at this show from time to time. I hate it when it is a DNA test show and the ( usually) man is told that the baby is not his. The result is either delight or heartbreak. It is indeed a horrible show and wrong on so many levels. I should be ashamed of myself for giving it viewing time. In fact I probably am. ?

A lady I know who has awful problems watches it. I asked her why-much better to only watch "uplifting" things surely? She said it makes her realise there are other people who are worse off than her. . . .

I love the Jeremy Kyle show. No one forces the guests to go on. They get an overnight stay in a hotel which I'm sure has rooms with ensuite bathrooms. If they go on the show with dirty hair etc then it simply reflects the type of people they are. Not a judgement. Some people shower/bathe every day and some people don't. And to be fair he does provide after show counselling and even residential treatment for people with addictions.

Unlike the nice lady above it doesn't make me realise that there are people worse off than me. I'm far more self-centred. It shows me that no matter how bad my life is I can thank my lucky stars that these people don't live next door to me.

I have stopped watching the earlier episodes of each The X Factor for much the same reason.

vampirequeen, I like your post. I'm not averse to watching it now and again, either (it's one of DH's guilty pleasures, though he doesn't care about that)!
The counselling that's offered and taken up can only be a good thing - although it won't work for everyone, obviously, and perhaps this is the only way that the people who go on the programme can have a chance to make things right.
I would, like you, vampirequeen hate to have to live next door to most of the people who appear on the show, however..... ...though come to think of it, some of our neighbours in the past.....(no, I mustn't...)!!
