the musician has died sad

It is bad when the people you idolised start to die but when it is people your children loved you start to feel really old and feel something is really wrong. My DS introduced me to his music so we are both devastated. A great talent lost too soon.
But love the party idea Alea.

DS1 has always been a mega-fan of Prince. In his teens he had all the albums available and when I went on holiday to Spain, unbeknown to me, he went to London for a gig and slept on Victoria Station. His dad was supposed to be keeping an eye on him. Sad to say, I never quite 'got' Prince - more of a Queen fan. I mean the group of course.

Why does it seem we are loosing so many famous people in recent years?
I heard an explanation that seems to make sense:
Its mainly because of the rise in popularity of TV and the changes in music from the late 50s onwards that created 'celebrities' in a way that hadn't happened before - apart from movie stars. These celebs are now knocking on a bit so its inevitable that we'll be loosing more and more of the older ones. Doesn't explain the younger ones though. sad

My favourite was the one recorded by Chaka Kahn. I Feel For You. I'll always associate that with middle son and those screaming sessions babies have between 6.00 and 8.00 in the evenings. I used to dance to that record with him on my shoulder to soothe him to sleep.

We saw him live at the O2 about 10 years ago. We weren't huge fans, but love to see live performances by people we know will give memorable ones. And he did - he was a real showman and it was a fabulous experience. For some reason all the tickets were priced the same, something odd like £32.48, and we were all given a free copy of his latest album (which we only played once grin). When Doves Cry is my favourite.

Apparently my DS has reportedly said that the celebrity deaths are all very sad, but they've all had a good innings shock grin I'll be having a word when I see him.

I am shocked to hear that Prince has died. From BBC (and other) reports it would appear that he was a heavy drug user and his premature death seems to be linked to this. Very sad and only 57.

Raspberry Beret was my absolute favourite.

At the risk of being facetious, is there one heck of a party going on on the third cloud on the right? Readings by Margaret Forster, humour from Terry Wogan, Ronnie Corbett and Victoria Wood and music by David Bowie and Prince.
No doubt I have missed someone, but 2016 is proving a busy year for the obituary writers sad

Loved his beautiful emotional lyrics and clever music. Too wee pixie looking for me - ' but you don't have to be beautiful to turn me on '.Poor Wee Prince .

Totally agree merlotgran. It is right up there with the best, isn't it? And Sinead's performance in the video was absolutely stunning.
