A very special happy Birthday to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth the second. Thank you for your dependable and invaluable service and long may you reign.

I have four small Union Flags in my window, anyone else got any bunting up ?

Nannanoo Thu 21-Apr-16 15:50:12

I am not as royalist, but I do like the Queen very much. She is unique, and as many have said, she has never put a foot wrong despite the many disasters that her extended family have imposed upon her.
Happy birthday Your Majesty, and God help us when you're gone - you'll be a hard act to follow!

Anyone on GN remember her birthday? My Mum would she was 7 or 8 at the time.

A truly remarkable lady - long may she reign over us.....

Bennan Thu 21-Apr-16 16:44:14

A truly remarkable woman who has rarely faltered for so many years. She is such a real role model for anybody to follow. I would hate to have a president, or first minister or any of the other titles given to self-seeking, egotistical people who run so many countries these days. Long may she reign. Happy Birthday, Ma'am!

Happy birthday to me - it's my 50th today and I am celebrating with family. When I was a child my mother used to tell me that all the bunting up in the village (for the Queens birthday) was actually for me.... Not a royalist myself, think it's a load of fuss about nothing.....and I'd bet that she does too.

Gaggi3 Thu 21-Apr-16 17:20:28

I'm not a royalist, and agree that the solution is not to watch or listen to related broadcasts. However, like football and other sports I don't follow, quite difficult to avoid at the moment.

Bennan I agree with you the Queen has rarely faltered for so many years. She is such a real role model for anybody to follow.

Like you, I would hate to have a president, or first minister or any of the other titles given to self-seeking, egotistical people who run so many countries these days.

I think she is value for money. Is a state representative and a tourist attraction. I feel William is going to learn from her and take the best features of her dignity and devotion to duty whilst trying to be a better parent to his children than the poor Queen was for Charles and his siblings. It was not her fault as in those days children were seen and not heard in the nursery and a good nanny was seen to be the answer.

I have grave concerns for Charles as he succeeds her.

So long may she reign. Happy Birthday, Ma'am!

What a truly amazing woman.
Happy Birthday Your Majesty??

I think it's a shame Prince Phillip wasn't included in the photo. They're his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well and as he's nearly 95 we don't know how much longer he'll be around. He's always been at the Queen's side so why not this time?

Maybe he was asked and gave a curt reply. grin

A wonderful tribute programme tonight. Footage of family occasions going back many decades and so nice that members of the family like Sarah Chatto were included.

We found it really moving.

Bellanonna Thu 21-Apr-16 22:23:17

Really enjoyed it all too

NanKate Fri 22-Apr-16 07:04:04

Kirsty Young and Gyles Brandreth were so good at presenting the programme yesterday. Gyles knew so much about the Royals. It was a master class in getting it right.

The queen certainly looked very happy with her birthday celebrations, wonderful achievement to reach 90!!!! My mum reached that milestone in January this year, perhaps it's a good sign for me!!!!
ONe thing though, what did other gransnetters think of her birthday cake? I am sure that it tasted wonderful, but what a strange design, and it was not upright either. What was the thinking behind it!!?? Any ideas ladies/chaps

Happy Birthday Your Majesty, and long may you reign.

I agree with what her cousin said, that her father would be so very proud of her, what a great job she's done over all these years.

People don't always appreciate something until it's gone - we've been very lucky to have her.

Also, she seems to have such lovely unlined skin for 90 - she was very pretty when young.

Loved the home movies last night, great to see behind the scenes, a more casual and "normal" family life.

merlotgran Fri 22-Apr-16 15:28:16

I was not impressed with the cake either. Why Nadia Hussein?

She's not the only person to have won Bake Off and yet she is catapaulted into the limelight whenever an occasion arises.

WI would have done a better job and the Queen is a member.

seacliff Fri 22-Apr-16 15:39:21

Agreed about the cake - I bet the Queen wasn't impressed either.

annsixty Fri 22-Apr-16 16:29:07

It definitely leaned and the colours were awful.

My grandson has the same birthday and thinks that this makes him entitled to two birthdays just like the queen . A lady who took vows which are never to be broken A 'lady who was Queen since Mr Churchill was pm so has great insight into the running of our country and 90 not out we should be proud of our Queen all the best maam
