So brilliant. Very sad. On Channel 4news they said when she described death in Britain She said that in some countries they scream a lot. Here it's " you slice and I'll butter." So clever . So spot on .

Victoria Wood was a unique entertainer - she seemed to be able to do everything - singing, songwriting, play-writing, acting, comedy-writing, stand-up comedy, producing, directing, playing the piano, even dancing.

She was so perceptive, witty and struck a chord with the best of British values. She was observant, self-depricating and incredibly funny.

I cannot think of anyone in our lifetimes who was such an amazing all-round entertainer. She was just fabulous, has gone too soon and will be sorely missed.

That has really shocked and saddened me. She was so talented and far too young to die. Sometimes the saying " the good die young" seems appropriate. This is obviously from a viewpoint of 78 years.

"Life’s not fair, is it? Some of us drink champagne in the fast lane, and some of us eat our sandwiches by the loose chippings on the A597."
RIP.

I also feel a tremendous sense of loss. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say she was one of the greatest - if not THE greatest - entertainers of her generation, flowers in memoriam.

It's not often I weep at the deaths of celebrities, but in this case I just feel genuinely shocked and so sad at the loss of this hugely talented lady. My heart aches for her children and loved ones. Yes, she has left a wonderful legacy but she has gone far too soon sad

How very sad, and so young toosad

Nelliemoser Wed 20-Apr-16 18:31:08

Oh that is awful! She was just a brilliant comedian and actor.
Her type of humour was right up my street. We have lost far too many of our best entertainers this year.
sad sad sad

So very sad, her comedy was always so well observed and always on target but never ever cutting or snide. She had the gift of poking fun at things but with such a good heart you never felt she had an unkind bone in her body. Can always remember reading an article she wrote about her education and there were so many things I could identify with. She too had sat an exam with a little plastic troll on the edge of her desk!! RIP Victoria you will be greatly missed.

I could never understand why Joan Collins was made a dame but Victoria wasn't. She had more talent in her little finger...

Judthepud2 Wed 20-Apr-16 18:05:05

RIP Victoria Wood. Such a talent. One of the few comedians who made me laugh out loud, but also a talented actor and writer.

Someone posted on Twitter that Death hasn't been using a scythe but rather a combine harvester this year.

She had so many talents, comedienne, actress, writer, musician. Couldn't pick out one thing I liked best, loved it all.Far too young and irreplaceable.
