I have Fox's Glacier mints in my coat pocket.

I ooh and ahh when I brush my hair.

I wipe down library books to clean the germs off them grin

I also see my mother when I look in the mirror and have inherited her propensity to *over cater( dinner for 6, I'll do enough for at least 8 because you never know who might drop in)
*I wipe the kitchen sink dry!

But she was a lot slimmer than me.

Yes, I am becoming my Mother ( she was a lovely woman) smile

i cook every meal from scratch.
I don't buy anything ready made like cakes etc because you don't know what rubbish these factories put into things.
I knit nice woollies because they are warmer.
I don't bother with make up, Ponds vanishing cream is good enough for me.
I listen to the Archers - never miss it.
I look exactly like my mum - it must be genetic. smile
But she died at 71 and I'm still here......

How very lucky you are menopause to see ur mum every day. When we are young the last thing we want to be is like our mothers. As time goes on we appreciate her more. I am becoming my mum a d with all her faults, am glad to do so. She passed away the day before her 9 1st bday

granjura Tue 01-Nov-16 10:44:11

Those os us who are happy and proud to be like our mums are very very lucky indeed, truly.

I'm the spitting image of mine, proud to be tbh. She repeats herself, so do I. She has chins, so do I. She farts when she stands up, so do I. She grunts getting up and down, so do I. She crosses her legs when she sneezes, so do I. She's beautiful and funny and she's just moved into the nursing home where I work and I see her every day and am enjoying spending her last years near me. Did I say I repeat myself!

My younger sister is slowly turning into our mum. When mum passed away 7 years ago i couldn't see my sister without bursting into tears and sobbing, she looks like our mum.She has the same gestures, says the same kind of things and is so
kindhearted and generous and i love her so much. She is the link to my past and i dread that anything should happen to her before me. Selfish i know, but i know i couldn't bear that.

My mother used to carry mint imperials. I don't. She would walk around the house muttering and complaining out loud. Oh my goodness I have started doing that. Help!!

I look very like my paternal great grandmother.

I am very much more like my Dad in attitude outlook etc. My sister behaves just like my mum.

My 4yrold DGS walks just like my late father (and me) We all hold/held our hands together behind our backs. I don't think he sees me often to have copied me I think it's in the genes. DS on the left.

I played with this image of my grandad and my son by sticking DS's head on my grandad's clothes. They both hold their head in the same way and are very similar except that my son has a nose that comes from my MILs family.

The only trait that connects me to my mother is her unconditional love for her grandchildren. I see her in my daughter, but when I look in the mirror, especially recently, it is my late sister I see staring back at me. We were always taken for mother and daughter. I went to my hairdresser recently and when I walked in there was a lady in the chair whose mouth dropped open when she saw me. I didn't know her but her mother had been one of my sister's best friend and she said "My God! Just for a moment......".

I am becoming my brother. My brother was 16 years older than me. He died a few years ago and when I met his daughter at his funeral, who we had not seen for many ears, she broke down in tears as we looked so much alike in our later years and she saw her father walking towards her. Strangely we did not look alike when younger.

I have none of my mothers mannerisms, habits or views which is excellent most of them were certifiable HOWEVER - I look like her which drives me NUTS!!!

Auntieflo Mon 31-Oct-16 09:21:29

My Mum had Murray mints in her pockets and bags. She used them as her aid to passing her driving test, quite late. I also find myself passing her in shop windows, scary, but comforting.

What worries me is that I have turned into my father!

Swanny Mon 31-Oct-16 09:04:11

Unfortunately I often see my mother in the mirrors at home. If she's here, where have I gone? She has taken over THE kitchen drawer - you know the one with everything in it anyone asks for? She's put a tape measure in my handbag and Murray mints in my coat pockets and makes me coo at all the new babies. I used to get so embarrassed when she did that ...

I'm happy to say I take after my dad in personality. I've been told that I'm like a breath of fresh air.

Oldgreymare Mon 31-Oct-16 08:40:07

Mum, a nervous passenger, used to sit twiddling her thumbs. Guess what? I now do it too.

Mumsy Mon 31-Oct-16 08:35:28

Thankfully I take after my dad! I vowed I would never ever take after my mum!

Christinefrance Mon 31-Oct-16 08:13:31

My daughter says exactly the same thing. C always said ' I'm not saying the things to my children that you said to me ' then found the words coming out of her mouth. We are so alike in a lot of ways it's scary but does mean we have quite a volatile relationship.

Recently, I've seen my mother in the mirror when I catch sight of myself in shops or even at home. I'm also increasingly finding myself taking on her pollyanna/god of small things, approach to life. I look on the bright side, see the best in people (well, I try to) and I love gardening, feed the birds, walk the dogs and often walk away when I see the windows need cleaning. I'm lucky, I loved my mum and liked her, so I'm a bit amused by the way things are going. I do hope I live as long and as well as she did but health stuff suggests that might not be the case. So, I'll enjoy the day as she always instructed me to.

I look so much like my Mum that my Dad for a few months found it very difficult to look at me after she died and i couldn't visit my Auntie who had dementia as she would start screaming that my dead Mum had come to take her to the other side. On a lighter note my DD often calls to say "oh Mum i just sounded exactly like you" after she has told my DGD off about her messy room !

POGS Sat 16-Apr-16 10:45:35

I am a double of my mum. We look like hobbits and descend from the all t-- t and a-s-o brigade (if people know that term confused. Sadly I inherited her genes health wise.

When mum died my sister held my hand and said it was just like holding mums hand, tiny, podgey soft skinned and covered in old age spots. grin.

I am visiting relatives in Somerset soon and I know they will say 'Aren't you the spit of your mum'. I stick my tongue to one side if I am seriously concentrating (fortunately that doesn't happen much grin), I twiddle my thumbs and look at the floor if I am sad and I laugh like a drain .

mollie Sat 16-Apr-16 09:44:22

I know I look like my mother (have been told since I was a teenager) and she takes great delight in telling me I'm getting like her in things I do and say which makes me scream inwardly. I never, ever want to be like her. I want to be me!

kassi Sat 16-Apr-16 08:34:35

My mother looked like the Queen...everyone thought so. Everyone says I look like my mother. But I look nothing like the Queen! Don't get it!
