Odd socks

OMG, I never thought people deliberately wore odd socks. I've been throwing odd ones out, not realising how very fashionable they might be... Quirky, or even anarchic, I do quite like the idea now I think about it. Lol!

When, and if we reach the afterlife, I strongly suspect that those unfortunate men who have suffered a lifetime of missing socks will be reunited with them, so whilst 70 virgins might not be awaiting them perhaps 70 lost socks will grin of course it wont do them any good because their other halves that emerged from the washing machine will have long since been chucked out and be disintegrating in landfill sad

Common knowledge there is a sock monster living in every washing machine LOL I can't bear mismatched socks either, thought it would solve the problem if I bought hubby only black , didn't work, different makes wash up different shades which I found equally annoying!

TerriBull all my socks used to be black - a hangover from my working days. Then one day I suddenly realised I was free from the work clothes tyranny so what on earth was I doing with a drawer full of black socks? They all went in the bin and I bought myself a whole new supply of brightly coloured socks. Now my sock drawer looks cheerful smile

TerriBull it's a well known fact that washing machines are earthy end-portals for another universe. In this universe there are those posting now about this strange phenomena of finding extra socks in their washes.

The "tanika?" is still in the sealed pack and is free to a good home.

I'm a tad older but the body is 110 ?

All my socks are black, so I'm not too bothered if I make a pair out of a newer still very black sock and a faded one. Husband is evangelical about socks matching, and he will buy the ones that have a different colour on the toe bit so no chance of matching those up, also has beige ones for summer, but again all different so can't be matched. As a consequence he has a drawer full of odd socks, alas no partners. I do believe there must be a land somewhere out there that is inhabited by lonely single socks, it's one of life's great imponderables where do socks go once they go in a washing machine in twos but come out as singles confused

Ann60 perhaps I'm still 14 in my head!!

Can't agree with that Mulberry .... What's wrong with a bit of individualism. There's a lovely shop near us that sells socks in packs of three and each one of the three is brightly coloured, patterned and odd.

I have several sets of these and, depending on my mood, grab any two of the 'happy socks' sunshine or any two of my boring black socks sad

BUT it's been interesting to see who disapproves and who likes them...Very Interesting.

It does help when you always seem to lose one sock in the wash. I have no idea where one sock goes occasionally but there is always just one odd sock.

I have two pairs of odd socks. Strange to say both the right foot and left foot ones in each pair match. I often wear a pair of them and they haven't murdered anyone - yetgrin

My DS's dog had a naughty habit of stealing and/or eating baby socks when he was a puppy . Mum and Dad could keep a careful watch on him, until.... baby got to the age when he pulled his socks off! That's when it became nigh on impossible to monitor and they kept finding they had nothing but odd socks to put on the baby. So that's what they did, as they couldn't bring themselves to just throw away all the odd socks and buy new, only for it to happen all over again with them grin

Bellanonna Thu 14-Apr-16 20:39:03

No, I just couldn't do it, even if I knew I wouldn't see anyone all day. Just goes again the grain

I often wear odd socks and am happy in the knowledge that I have another pair just like the ones I am wearing still in my sock drawer.

It has been a trend recently for teens to wear odd socpks and for C*******s I bought a box of stars and stripes socks all different for my 14 year old GS.

Only comment on D's socks when they actually match !
She has a pile of plain black for work (she has to wear black uniform trousers) otherwise she just grabs any two.

hildajenniJ Thu 14-Apr-16 14:44:28

Noooo. I hate odd socks. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere without a matching pair. DH on the other hand wouldn't mind at all. I wouldn't feel properly dressed, even if my feet were hidden in my boots!

tanith Thu 14-Apr-16 14:39:35

How can it ruin an outfit if she had boots? on no one would see anyway. I usually wear a pair but I know some youngsters prefer to wear odd socks just for fun.

theMulberryTree Thu 14-Apr-16 14:39:07

But she knew she was coming to visit so surely she knew her socks would be on show...

It's not her that bothers me. Just the sock issue in general. And it is an issue...

mollie Thu 14-Apr-16 14:36:31

If they were intended to be hidden under boots I suppose it didn't matter much. I can see your point and like things to be matching too BUT I also like the playfulness of mis-matched sox so I'd have to sit on the fence about this one...

theMulberryTree Thu 14-Apr-16 14:33:40

My SIL came to visit the other day and she was all dolled up in a lovely outfit with her make-up done. Then she took off her boots and she had two different brightly coloured socks on.

To me, I think she's ruined the whole look, like she didn't complete her outfit. Am I the only one who thinks this?!

DH is just like his sister (and the rest of his family when I come to think about it...) and would happily wear mismatched socks without a care in the world (if I would allow it...) But I pair the socks up on the line when I hang out the washing, and so he'd have to go through the effort of unpairing them if he wants them mismatched...
