Over the last few months, dealing with my dad, I have come into contact with many people I don't know, haven't ever met before and will probably never see again. However, every single one of them has been kindness itself. The staff at The Christie were fantastic, from the specialist to the guy in the little cafe. The hospital staff brilliant, (unfortunately the nursing home not so great), the Funeral Director and the banks, the carers, in-mates and staff where he lived and people who I have had to put off seeing myself because I have been dealing with his things, all wonderful and caring and sensitive and start with "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" when I say he has died, even though they didn't know him and don't know me. It has really brought it home to me how you can get through tough times through dealing with lovely people. It has helped tremendously.
Since the funeral ten days ago, however, the people I have known all my life, my mother, brother and for 36 years, my sister, not one phone call or text to see how I am.
