Breaking some rules

I did the supermarket divider thing a few times after it had been mentioned on here previously. I think a lot of us on here and on Mumsnet did it, to see what would happen.

Most people following me just turned it round, some tutting as they did so. One poster said that the girl on the checkout asked whether there was a trend on Facebook, because it seemed to be happening a lot. The power of memes!

Let's all revive that one - Mumsnet are probably bored with it, but you never know.

Wanting a tattoo, or an earring, in later life purely for the sake of rebelling against some unwritten, and probably imagined, rule, smacks, to me personally, of immaturity.

Most rules are there for a good reason. Perhaps best not to break them.

Occasionally, as on this website, there are some ridiculous ones that simply cry out to be fucking broken.

There is a local privately owned 5p toll bridge at Swinford. It didn't used to be manned on Christmas Day, so my father would enjoy driving across it a few times just because he could! He was a great stickler for following rules, so this was the naughtiest he got! Nowadays there is a charity collection.

When I was a child I stole a loose hazelnut from the counter display in Marks and Spencer. I felt so guilty I couldn't eat it, and haven't forgotten or forgiven myself to this day!

It used to be right ear ring if gay, like Elton John, but I don't think anyone follows it now.

grannylyn Me too in the carpark in our little town there are arrows as to which way to go to get round but if I want to head out of town instead of home I do sneak out the quicker way depending on how how near I am to the end of the row.

I see. Now you mention it, I was vaguely aware of something about an earring in the left earlobe of a man was a sign he is gay. One of our neighbours has one earring. I couldn't for the life of me tell you which ear it's in and I've known him ten years!

Bit like not being able to say if someone wears glasses.

There are unwritten rules as to which ear you wear it in. But that may not be what you meant, only one of my friends has an earring, so for me it is breaking the rules.

Next time you shop in a supermarket, mollie, put the divider (those things you use to divide your stuff from that of the person behind you at the checkout) lengthwise on its side instead of across the conveyor belt and right way up. It's very amusing to watch people's reactions, especially if you're deliberate about it

I've been done for speeding three times, but don't recommend it.

Tempting Roses, tempting. I think I've left it too late really. I like the idea of being a bit flighty, like one of those St Trinian's girls, running a poker school behind the bike sheds and fleecing the chaps for a change! Or riding a motorbike. Or staying out all night and crawling in at breakfast time...I didn't do any of that in my youth! Too worried about my image! And now, who cares? Lol!

I was always one who followed the rules and careful to please my parents telling myself one day when they are gone I will do as I please! Like stay out all night or go to a bar! Sad thing they died when I was almost 50. Now I have no desire to " misbehave" I have gotten my share of speeding tickets but that's no fun and your insurance just increases.

I always conform to the rules especially when driving but recently I parked on some double yellow lines as I was on an emergency call out as a first responder. As I unloaded my bags of equipment a man pointed out I had parked on double yellow lines. Yes thank you I said but I am on my way to a cardiac arrest and I am not blocking anyone's way. I still fell a pang of guilt whenever I drive past that spot.
