It's that feeling of expectation at this time of year, and watching nature come to life again. Buds on trees, birds collecting nesting material, bluebells starting, smell of cut grass, having breakfast in the garden ( I did today). There's a lot of activity going on, everything springing to life after that long dormant spell.
Probably my favourite time too, but then I also love autumn and winter with smells and colours, leaves, berries, woodsmoke, even snow. Summer can be disappointing but the long daylight hours are its special feature for me. So "to each season something is special" really.

I love this time of year to, the start of so much and a feeling of hope after all the gloom. Actually today the weather was glorious, so much so I nearly took my fleece off! The light, signs of growth in the garden, birdsong, magnolia blossom, generally a happier time. Do not like winter at all. Bright frosty mornings are lovely but find the rest of the gloom too much.

I love the start of each season, the freshness each time.

I hate winter. It has been marginally less hateful since I retired as I don't have to go out at an ungodly hour and scrape ice off the car. But I still hate it.

My annual feeling of gloom starts around the middle of September and I know why that is - it comes from having worked at a University for 30 years till I retired. The September term is the busiest one of the year, and each year as I got older, I found I was dreading it. Once the madness started with Freshers' fortnight, I felt I was on a crazy helter skelter, hurtling towards Christmas at breakneck speed, with no time (and little energy) to prepare for the holiday season, to even think about presents, never mind shop for them. And even though I've been retired for nearly 6 years, that feeling hasn't left me.

Yes I adore the next few months. I have spent a few hours in the garden today planting bearded irises, another rose - this MUST be the last one, sowing seeds utter bliss.

I love the longer days of April and May - it's worthwhile planning a day's walking when you know you're not going to lose the light at four o'clock. Warmer days mean fish start rising to hatching flies. Here is where I was fishing (loafing, daydreaming with the sun on my face) on Thursday - bliss! Spring! Bring it on!

That looks a beautiful, peaceful place to spend a few hours Greyduster. I wish I could do a day's walking. We used to walk a lot over Dartmoor, but I simply can't walk far at all these days with arthritic knees and very painful feet. I miss it.

I used to love Autumn best of all when I was younger: the smell of bonfires in the evening air, digging out woolly jumpers, looking ahead to Christmas ... Now I feel a sense of sadness as October creeps into November and the days close in so early. Maybe it is an aging thing, but now I am so grateful for each new Spring, the return to lighter evenings and the promise of better days to come. I love travelling to and from work in daylight and the sense that there is a lot of day left once you get home. But there is always that moment when the chunly, cover-all winter wardrobe has to give way to lighter clothing and I realise, yet again, that I shouldn't have had all those easter goodies .

I must be the only one who loves winter and dark nights! I like to get the curtains closed early, put the lamps and candles on and make the place cosy. I said as much to my husband the other evening as it was cold and dark when we came out of the supermarket at 6pm. He said I wasn't the one who had to go out and scrape the car at 6 am then wait 20 minutes for it to warm up during the 1 hour drive to work only to have to do the whole thing in reverse at tea time! He has a point - I work from home

It almost seems as if the gardens have been waiting for April 1st, everything is now in bloom for the springtime, and the colours are quite vibrant, presumable because the sun has been shining, how that does help everything and everyone feel better.

PRINTMISS i agree, my garden looks a picture, daffs, tulips, wallflowers, grape hyacinths all in bloom. Just like everyone else who has posted on this subject i love spring, it is a time of new life, fresh hopes for the better longer days to come.
The glorious weather of the last two days has meant i have been out in the garden digging and weeding and preparing for my salad crops to go in as the days warm up.
My greenhouse has my geraniums from the past two years putting on new growth plus a beautiful fushia has sprouted new leaves.
Today it is a bit grey and overcast but i dont mind, the gentle rain wont damage any of the spring blooms and i am off to see my oldest friend for the day so can go guilt free that i should be out working in the garden instead of sitting indoors eating homemade scones and drinking copious cups of tea and catching up on all the news!!!!!! Love May when the new leaves are out on the trees and that lovely fluorescent green colour, and the bluebells are in full bloom. And the birds are singing their hearts out. It would be a bonus if the weather was warm and sunny but it invariably isn't in N.Ireland. But rain showers are frequent with the associated rainbows which are often stunning.

Today and yesterday (early April) were very wet with temp of 7C ? Not a pleasant spring at the moment!
