Now I''ve seen it all....

They weren't in the ready-to-go instant lunch section, but in beside the lettuce and leaves, already peeled. Looks like they were placed there for those buying salad ingredients to take home. Ready boiled and ready peeled-how fast do people want food? I'm no lover of cooking but even I wouid draw the line at a fast food boiled egg! I can't swear to it as I was so taken aback, but I don't think there was any indication of their provenance either. Presume they came from one of Mr Tesco's lovely farms

We get them here at Easter but they are decorated and rather pretty.
The first time I bought them I did not realise, and had grand fun trying to break one for a fried egg sandwich.
We use them for Easter egg hunts.

If you only want the occasional hard boiled egg, it makes sense.

Teetime I have seen this it's an appalling waste. The crusts at least protects the edges of the bread from drying out so quicky. Selling bread with no crust will make the bread even more likely to get dry and unpalatable and be wasted.

My friend told me you can buy bread with the crusts cut off I'm not surprised really people are buying time and convenience and if they are happy to pay over the odds its up to them. I shocked myself by buying two packets of ready to cook sprouts at Easter from M & S it was nice when it came to the cooking though.

I often buy hard boiled quail eggs, I have them as part of aperos or to add a bit of interest to Parma ham or tuna salad or with a simple starter like asparagus.

DH and I often go out for the day/afternoon on the spur of the moment, and either don't want to delay by making a packed lunch or have nothing much with which to make it. So we stop at a supermarket en route and buy sandwiches, crisps, fruit and so on. A couple of hard boiled eggs would be snatched up!

Schoolkids club together to buy stuff like that for lunch and share it out. Not much different from buying a ready-made school lunch in school when you think about it, but they get the added benefit of walking to the shop.

They also buy up the dead cheap leftover chocolate Easter eggs

Even if proper cookery lessons were brought back, some pupils would not bring in all the ingredients.

But I do think we have to accept that the world has moved on and the make up of families is different.

Bloomin' heck! My DH does the shopping, mostly locally, and I rarely go into the big supermarkets. In fact he actively discourages me as I'm too embarrassing apparently. Ready grated carrots, mashed potatoes, grabbed and waved with glee! He waits until I'm out somewhere before making an expedition to the 'Big Sainsburys'. Perhaps I should take a trip on my own and just wander the aisles.

Were they shelled too Katek? If so it would save loads of time when doing a batch to pickle. Would cost a fortune though!

I have actually met someone who didn't realise that boiling an egg involved boiling water, rather than just sticking the egg in a pan and expecting it to boil inside its shell. Bring back proper cookery lessons, I say.

perhaps they can boil an egg, perhaps they don't have time and quite fancy a hard boiled egg, it's all good
