Separate bedrooms?

My DH and I sleep in separate rooms. We go to bed at different times as he works until 10 PM. We get up at 03.00 do go to our early morning job so I go to bed at 8pm. He doesn't want to disturb me. It works very well.

We've been in separate rooms for years - initially due to his snoring but then he was diagnosed with sleep apnea and has a C-pap machine which makes a lot of noise and blows air so although he's stopped snoring I couldn't sleep with that going on. I sleep so much better than I used to and just share my room with my cat

Friends have separate rooms (with visiting rights ) due to his "restless leg syndrome"
H often took himself of to the spare room as he's rubbish sleeper. Unfortunately the spare room is currently long term temporarily occupied by D so H ends up on the sofa.
I have no objections to separate rooms.

We sleep together but last week the hubster slept upstairs (our bedroom is ground floor) to be near DGD as it was her first night sleeping in a wee bed rather than the cot. The mattress on the guest bed is too soft and kills my back so he had to go up alone.
I slept like a log which is unusual but sadly he slept poorly so don't think we'll be separating anytime soon.

It's tempting... The thought of a bit of private space is very appealing.

We have had our own beds for about 10 years, best thing we ever did. I can read in peace, no moaning about the light. He has tv in his room which also means that he can go upstairs early to watch what he likes and I can watch what I want in living room. He tends to fall asleep in the middle of programmes and it's annoying to see a nodding head out of the corner of your eye lol.

We've had separate rooms for years. Initially for several reasons - his snoring keeps me awake, and my restless sleeping, up and down to the loo, disturbs him. Also, when we were both working, he got up for work at 3.00am and was in bed at 9.30pm. So he had to get dressed in the dark and I had to get undressed in the dark. Plus he used to catch up on sleep in the afternoons most days, so unless I thought of it beforehand, I couldn't go in the bedroom to change clothes, get something I wanted, etc. Really inconvenient.
Neither of us would ever want a return to sharing a room - even when we go away now we always rent a cottage/villa with minimum two bedrooms!

Well, after all these years I still enjoy a cuddle before I go to sleep. So no separate beds or rooms for us.

I just find it odd that certain people see this as a matter for 'confession' or feel the need to canvas support for the idea. Its a private matter for those concerned and everyone should be able to have their domestic arrangements exactly how they like.

I suppose there are cases where couples cannot agree with each other but that's going to be more about the state of the relationship than any thing else.

We've done it for years too. Initially because of ill health and then because he got up 2 hours before me in the morning and worked shifts, so coming home from duty and he'd wake me up again.

I never felt I was running on my own body clock.

We now have 2 rooms done to suit our individual needs and requirements. No complaints if I want cushions on my bed or a girlie colour .

I'm with you Indinana- we even have 2 rooms if we're away . We've been married 40 years so we must be doing something right

We have separate rooms for sleeping and it works well.

PRINTMISS , why should sleeping on different rooms stop you from having a cuddle ?

My hubby moved into the spare bedroom almost 3 years ago, after an operation which left him requiring a stoma bag, so it was better for him to be on his own. 14 months ago he had the operation to reverse the stoma, and as we`d agreed at the start, he moved back in with me. But after a few nights, he decided that he wanted to go back in the other room, and did so. I must admit to loving the king size bed all to myself, except when little grandson sleeps over occasionally.

We have had separate rooms for years but for 4 nights this week H is having to share as we have visitors and we both admit we do not like it. He even offered to sleep downstairs but for 4 nights we will have to make the best of it.

When DH was post surgery we had separate rooms and I liked it so much I didn't go back much to his disgust. Since we have downsized we have shared again and it took me a while to re-adjust but it is fine. If it was my choice I would have my own room again but he is such a happy DH to have me back I don't have the heart to do it.

I don't know why people think it is something to 'confess' to as if it is something shameful. If it works better for you to have separate rooms and you are happier then why ever not?

DD and I have had seoerate rooms for at least 10 years. It started after I had my knee replacements so that I could heave myself about in the bed with out disturbing him. Then he became ill and, what with health problems and worry, neither of us sleeps well now so it seems better to enjoy a bit of peace in a separate room and get as much sleep as we can.

I know several friends who have separate bedrooms and others who share. We are in the share camp (at the moment) as we both seem to sleep OK in our double bed. I guess if that changes at any time and sleep is causing one of us a problem we will reconsider . When DH is away I do find it hard to sleep and tbh I think we both still enjoy/need/would miss the intimacy that sharing a small space brings. I do not necessarily mean lovemaking I just mean being close. Bedtime is the time we talk about things, read the papers and discuss articles and do the crossword!

We share and are happy doing that but if it ever became more sensible to sleep in separate beds/rooms for any reason then we'd just work it out so that we are both happy. Its no ones business but the couple involved and whatever works for them.

Ginny I should have said it is nice to have someone to cuddle up to in bed and say good night, I love you. It is that simple in this household, I am afraid. There of course other occasions when we have a cuddle.
