I do try to keep things tidy - and I actually love cleaning. But only when it needs doing. Really needs doing. I see no point in dusting something that isn't really dusty.

My next door neighbour spends a lot of her time raking up the leaves and pine cones that fall from the trees in front of our houses. She then puts them in the brown bin that she pays the Council £30 a year for. She then mows all the grass. The Council come round and do all this themselves but apparently she doesn't mind paying them £30 a year to do the work for them. She also rushes out and takes every body's bins back when the bin men have been. I can't help feeling her life must be very dull if she has to fill her time like this.

2nd coffee here - and still in my dressing gown! grin. Cobwebs will come second to a lunch out today, though yesterday I bought a retractable / extending duster for the princely sum of £2 and I might give it a whirl in high places later!!!

Can't stand a mucky house or an untidy one either. You don't have to spend hours on it though just clean up as you go along and a good deep clean every so often.

Yes, I like that concept of 'restoring order' imperfect .... and now I'm off to sit in the sunny garden with a nice cup of coffee sunshine

It's about balance for me. I like a certain amount of order, but can live with a cobweb or 2 (3 or 4 ...)

When my children were little, another young mum taught me this rhyme:

It's raining, it's pouring,
The housework is boring,
There's cooking and cleaning to do.
I'd rather be out on a wet green hill,
Laughing and dancing with you.

At the time, it made me smile because I seemed to spend ALL my time doing household jobs and not enough time playing with my children. Now my life is so different and I love nothing better than to have a homey day, cooking and restoring order. House work can be creative too. But /i would still rather be out on that hill ...

Everyone has their own threshold for what's ok, one persons "homely" is another persons "filthy"! I don't especially like housework but as I do like things tidy it has to be done but I've never been one for systematic cleaning routines. I just do what I need to do as quickly as I can so I can get on with other, more interesting, stuff. I'm not boring, just pragmatic!

I need to have a quick whizz round to make it look acceptable (was it you jings who recommended a flyby lady or someone like it?) before I go out to climb mountains or swim rivers (metaphorically speaking of course, because I have not climbed a mountain since I 'froze' halfway up when rock-climbing many years ago, very embarrassing).

By the way, I have dusted and vacuumed. I the poem is a way of life that I would like to subscribe to, but to be honest I don't like a dusty house!

I hate housework, but I also hate it if the house reaches a (to me) unacceptable state, so I tend to walk the line between the two.

As some may know, I write the odd poem or other bit of writing, and often a line or two will come to me when doing various mundane tasks. I scribble them down, sometimes don't come back to them for yonks, but hopefully strike a balance between keeping a reasonable house, and doing something creative.

Now that I like anniebach. Now where did I put my glasses?

Anniebach Tue 29-Mar-16 18:25:23

I have no need to dust , have developed a sight problem so can't see it

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 29-Mar-16 18:13:29

Yer mucky lot! hmm

And that's no poem.

NanKate Tue 29-Mar-16 18:10:42

You could write that excellent poem in the dust in my house grin

f77ms Tue 29-Mar-16 18:10:41

I for one like housework, but I also have many other hobbies and work 2 days for a charity . Nothing is nicer than sitting down to sew or paint when everything is done . So dust I must ...

ninathenana Tue 29-Mar-16 18:01:30

Me tooIndinana
My mum !!

I love it too. No, petra, I don't think people who like housework are boring morons, but if it's the only thing that someone gets enthused about, with no other interests or hobbies, then I would find that a little strange. (And yes, I have known people who fit that description shock)

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 29-Mar-16 17:54:15

I agree with petra. A mucky house is depressing. Get some jobs done, then sit in the sun. Or eat the chocolate.

bookdreamer Tue 29-Mar-16 17:52:17

And me

LullyDully Tue 29-Mar-16 17:49:49

And me.

petra Tue 29-Mar-16 17:49:49

Why can't you do it all. Why is it assumed that people who like housework are some sort of boring moron.

Alea Tue 29-Mar-16 17:08:35

Love it!

hildajenniJ Tue 29-Mar-16 17:04:05

Here's a poem that sums up how I feel about housework. Any thoughts?
