I heard on the radio the other day that vinyl records are coming back into fashion and one or more supermarkets are going to stock them.

Nothing much you can do with cassettes and video tapes, other than take them to the tip.

Our local council were doing a recycling publicity drive last year and I asked them about videos. They told me they could be recycled and turned into other things.

No, we just had to take a lot of old video tapes to the local tip. They can't be recycled.

I don't think any care homes would have a use for video tapes. The last one I worked in didn't have a machine to play them on, just a DVD player. Some of the residents had TV/DVD players in their rooms. We took our to the tip. You can get videos transferred on to DVD. We had our wedding tapes put on to DVD before we got rid of them.

I suppose I should ask the local charity shops...feels a bit like dumping stuff on them but if I ask they can say no...

We took a huge box of my sons cd's to the local hospice charity shop they seemed happy to take them.

I tried to find a good home for my parents record collection but eventually gave it to a local charity which collects furniture and sells it in it's own shop. Perhaps somewhere like that might have them or maybe approach a local care home - I gave a lot of my parents boxed dvds sets to the care home they were in which they were very grateful for. We too have dozens of cd's and videos but I'm sure no one would want my music grin

Just to be sure, I am right in thinking that even charity shops don't take pre-recorded videos or music cassettes these days? I've got boxes and boxes of them, it seems such a waste to heave them into the local dump but what else do you do with them? There is no way I could try and find a collector or offer them on eBay (no patience for an auction or do the posting thingy) but many of them are in pristine condition...
