morethan2, Is saying your DDiL is getting fat, when that is in fact what is happening, an unkind thing to say? Or was is said in an unkind manner? Does DGD know her mother is ill? If so can she not just say 'That is because my mummy is ill and her medecine makes her get bigger?'
I am not sure people are less kind than in the past. I can remember both adults and children making very unkind remarks when I was a child. I had a medical condition for most of my childhood and both adults and children made nasty remarks about it and physically bullied me. My daughter has always been overweight. We think it is genetic as there seems to be one person in every generation of her father's family who is overweight, despite eating a normal diet and having an active life style. She never had a problem at school but several times I had to tick people off for making unpleasant comments about her in her hearing when we were out.
What was directly across the road from the school you went to?
