rosesarered there are some Gransnetters who would get very upset if we interrupted their threads with sunshine.

Back to moaning.....I'm so relieved about my relatives in Brussels but feel like a piece of chewed string now! Drained.

Let sunshine and optimism rule the day.

Thanks for the update wot good news. Back to the grumpiness question. I'm not a bad tempered person by nature but I've always been a bit grumpy at times. It has got worse as I've got older. Is it because I'm tired? Sleep used to be a pleasure not now. It has to be carefully planned. If I go to bed before 10 I'd be awake at 2am so I have to go at 11 but I'm still awake around 4 or 5. This means I'm tired almost before the day begins. I somtimes find myself feeling grumpy with my lively grandchildren. I try to hide it, I tell myself how very lucky I am to have them, and over the last few difficult weeks I keep reminding myself that they need my kindness more, but I've had them more often so I'm more tired and that means more grumpyness...(hangs head in shame emotion) My husband is more grumpy with them than me. I think that's tiredness too. Perhaps we're just a grumpy family. Today driving to town I saw a pair of really grumpy looking people I pointed them out to husband saying "oh look I worry that we'll be like that soon" his reply " I look at them and worry that's us now"

If we see an inappropriately negative comment on a thread, like on the garden centre thread, couldn't we just put in a comment saying 'Grumpsnet alert'?

Thanks to everyone who cares. Much appreciated. On going worry though. My nieces hubby is Muslim (not over zealous though) and they are the nicest family of the whole lot! I just hope there's no repercussions for them. Wot a life.......

Ha ha Pompa Went shopping with DD yesterday and was sorely tempted to buy a musical toy in a charity shop that really captivated him. I resisted - my DD bought it! The delight and interest in him was something to behold. Wonder if this is the start of the slippery slope ... Seriously don't think so, but I did reflect on my earlier post x

Pompa You are right, the anti-grumps need to keep making the point that they are not sabotaging the subject under discussion, but lightening the reprimanding tone of the grumps.

There will then be accusations of "trying to trivialise a serious discussion of important matters" and of "thinking it funny that people are suffering", but it is not only possible but better practice to present valid comments without hectoring one's hearers/readers. Nothing turns people against an opinion faster than being scolded for not holding it, or turns them against a project or policy faster than being controlled into following it.

I think I'm wandering about in a daze this morning. My last post should have been on the grump about garden centres.

The sun is shining so as soon as I've finished my coffee I'll be planting my recent purchases from our local nursery. I try and avoid the garden centres for plants (how daft does that sound?) but often go there for gifts.

The problem with our nurseries is that they become very successful due to the fact they concentrate on plants and their prices are reasonable. They expand, become even more popular and Hey Presto! They are taken over by one of the chains.

A nursery just a ten minute drive away is now Scotsdales and it's full of tat. You can't park when the cafe is full but.....they do a three for two compost offer so all is not lost

We still have one nursery left but it's getting bigger....and bigger and the prices have soared
