I had a spate of visiting psychics when friends or relatives wanted to go - some were vague and wishy washy and a couple were spot on. One friend had me going to one after another looking to find whether her man friend was returning - when one actually said he was, she said she didn't want him- Doh! One listed all my dead relatives and said one had been involved in a war and was surrounded by cannons and horses- no one I knew I thought. As I left I remembered my grandfather was in the Royal Horse Artillery in WW1- when I have been to group sessions I am always cynical when the messages always seem to be about putting the cat out or some such inanity. I have psychic powers myself- I know sex of unborns and people's illnesses and to add to all this - I played Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit

I would say I'm open minded but have a sceptical nature, if that makes any sense. I have had two experiences though.

At age 12, I was to go to boarding school many kilometers from home (we lived abroad). We were awaiting joining instructions when I had a dream about what boarding school might involve In a jumble of other things I dreamt the number R441 would be significant. It turned out to be my identifying number which had to be sewn into my clothes alongside my name.

Then much later, in my twenties I dreamt my brother's darts team asked us if they could name a competition cup in his honour. In my dream I went to see them play but he wasn't there. Later, after he was killed in a car accident, the darts team captain asked my father if they could please name their cup in his honour.

So I think there might be something in it....

So what did the psychic say ?

Well, it was all rather interesting , somethings I didn't understand but I came away contented , comforted and hopeful !
I'm going to Italy, will meet a new love in 9 weeks time, my daughter (who has been trying for a baby for 2 years ) will be pregnant within the year . Whatever I do I must not move house ( I was thinking of downsizing ), she told me that I was a Scorpio - my new love will be a Leo - and this will cause people to gossip about me ! Great ! I'm the most boring person on the planet so what the gossip will be , I just don't know !
The psychic was told nothing so knew nothing about me , so it'll be interesting to see if her predictions come true .
She used tarot cards , it cost £ 16 and was a lot of fun ! Ciao !

I once had my fortune told for a laugh. I hardly listened to what she said but did hear her say that I would be getting another cat. As we alredy had six this was obviously complete rubbish. Within a couple of months we were landed with a cat that a neighbour had abandoned. Still not convinced, but it was interesting.

After my mother died we moved into her house. A lot of her bits and pieces were still on show, including a little blue Egyptian hippo on the mantlepiece. Several times the hippo seemed to have been moved to a different position. Just enough to make you wonder .................

Went to one when I was feeling vulnerable and unhappy. She had no details about me and lived many miles away so could not have done research. Told me husband having affair. Got correct name and told me other correct details. Told me I had lost a daughter at few weeks name was very close but not quite correct. Told me I had two other children girl and boy and lots of other stuff.

However next time I went when in a better place she had obviously forgotten me and was pretty rubbish.

Not sure what to think.

Yes, there are charlatans wishing to take advantage of the vulnerable. I can only say that at my reading she didn't know my name, I was in a different city from home, I sat down and she began to speak.

It depends on whether you believe the human spirit lives on after death. And there's some other kind of existence after the one we're living now.
I believe there is, no idea what it's like, but it's an individual thing, and you can't prove it one way or the other.

My mum died of cancer when I was in my 30's. She had been ill for about six months and unable to speak for the last weeks which frustrated her dreadfully. A couple of days later I was sorting out some of her clothes in her bedroom and feeling very low when I had the most strange feeling that she was telling me not to feel down because she was now free of the pain. It was a very odd experience which did actually make me feel better and I've never forgotten that moment.

Yes I do agree that there are fakes out there and some are probably very good at getting information from people, especially the ones who do stage shows. However both the ones I visited asked for only my first name when I made the appointment on the phone and as I stated before there was no conversation beforehand. One of them didn't even live in the same city. I never met my father. The medium knew this and talked about the (true) reasons that this came about.

I used to work for a magazine company years ago & we used to visit local phychics who advertised with us incognito to see if they were OK.
I was told by an old lady that I was pregnant ( shock!!) - 5 months pregnant & I was having a boy- a very large baby & to remember the numbers 5 5. I was very surprised as although we were 'trying' for a baby I didn't think I was expecting.
Cut a story short my 10lb 5oz boy was born on 5th May- I had been 5 weeks pregnant at the time.
The woman who came with me was told an amazing tale about her husband & an accident he had been involved in. Every word was true & my friend had no idea until she told her husband about it & he fessed up.
Having said that most of them were rubbish.

A little while after my daughter died, my SIL went o a medium who apparently gave her a message from my DD. My SIL first went to my ex-husband and he didn't want to know. She then contacted me and I said I wasn't interested in hearing the message. She died a few years later and we will never know what the 'message' was.
When my DD died (car accident), I had a strange experience - I was actually leaving my house to get into the police car that was to take me to the hospital where her body was. I looked up and it was an incredibly starry night. I suddenly felt an intense energy above my head- like a hovering 'something'. I felt it was my DD and I spoke to her and said she was not to worry, that we would all be all right and she needed to go in peace. The energy moved away.
I feel I was so very close to my DD that it doesn't make any sense at all to me that an intermediary would need to give a message from her. I dwelt with her in my thoughts constantly - still do. However, I also feel I had no regrets, no guilt, no unfinished business with her - she had been a very happy and whole person. The only message I could conceive of would be something about her dad not feeling guilty - he was driving at the time of the accident.
I have always suspected that some mediums do research and know some back stories to people who come to see them. My DD's death was front page news in local papers and my SIL was a suggestible person ... I have never lost sleep about not knowing what the message was.

I am not saying all mediums are out to exploit and within my own family there has been a lot of evidence of spiritual experiences, but I do feel vulnerable people are very open to being exploited.

A friend's Mum read my tea leaves and told me that I was going to live abroad and meet a dark-haired man whom I would marry. I didn't think anything of it at the time and I had no thoughts on living abroad, but some time later I did go and work abroad. and met a dark-haired man who has been my husband for 33 years!

Just realised the organisation is called Foreverfamilyfoundation.org and the list I spoke about was mediums not psychics.

There is a website called Foreverfamily.org who broadcast talks on things supernatural and support people who are bereaved. Their opinion of mediums is that a very high proportion are fakes but they do have a list of mediums who have been tested under controlled conditions. I have no experience of using them and they are an American organisation but I think sessions could be carried out via the phone or Skype in the UK

On the iplayer yesterday I watched Tuesday's 9pm BBC4 programme about Magicians, Psychics and Frauds. It was fascinating and Randi certainly disproved a lot of them. Well worth watching.

I went to a psychic with a group of work colleagues.
It was very expensive.
She told me I lived right next to water [there is no water in miles]. Also she hadn't noticed I was 8 months pregnant and would not be drawn on the gender of the child.
She told me my grandparents sent messages from the "other side" - which was strange as they were all alive at that time.
The rest was vague and rambling.
I was not impressed, perhaps I was unlucky...

Go for it. There are con artists out there, as there are in every walk of life, but there are also very gifted psychics. I know, because I have seen one of them. Won't go into all the details, as very personal, but the eeriest, was a reading when the psychic told me that my grandmother in spirit, had been watching me make gingerbread men with my three children. She even described the white iced buttons we had put on their fronts. We had indeed been making gingerbread men with white icing buttons, a few days previously. A con; I think not! I also believe in reincarnation, but that's probably too big a step for most people. For the record, Einstein believed in past lives, amongst many other distinguished and clever people. He theorised that being born once was a miracle, so therefore, why couldn't you be born twice. Just look at the spring flowers re-emerging all around us. Love to hear from any fellow believers out there.

My husband dismissed it all as a con. A clairvoyant gave me a sheet of paper on which she had drawn a road plan , asked me to give it to my husband - they had never met - and said he should be prepared for a death .

He and I didn't recognise the road she had sketched. About a month later he and a fellow police officer had to appear in a court twenty miles away, they took a mountain road - rarely used - because it was a few miles less than the usual route. They passed a car parked on a verge. Later in the day on the way back my husband recognised the stretch of road as the sketch he had been given. The car was still on the verge, they followed the markings on the sketch up onto the mountain, they found the body of a man in a sleeping bag, he had overdosed . It was not a suicide spot , they searched records and there had been no previous death in that area.

You must remember we look to make thing come true. For example grandma60 when you son went to live in Scotland after being told twice you matched it up saying yes she was right. Coolgran 65, think how many careers wear white coats. How many things do they tell us do not come true but we forget those.

Horoscopes are an example. A class room of students were given their horoscope and they all felt it mainly fitted them. Then they were asked to change papers and found they all had the same horoscope whatever their birthday.

It really interests me and I did have a reading a few years ago when the woman told me that my husband was very ill. I was young enough for her to 'think' one of my parents would be very ill if that makes sense but she said my husband, and he was. She said a few things she couldn't have known too. A distant relative of mine is medium/psychic/clairvoyant (I don't know the difference tbh) and it appears she's good at what she does too from people who have been to see her work.

Yes same here Coolgran We had no conversation whatsoever and the things they talked about were very personal and nothing that could be guessed.The first words the medium said to were. "Now Mum tells me that she died in a nursing home in 2001". He was absolutely right. For all he knew my Mother could have been waiting in the Coffee Shop across the road!
Also we live in the South of England and no reason to expect either of our children to move to Scotland. Lots of other things as well too personal to mention on here.

I am very open minded and about 25 years ago had a couple of very informative readings.
I was told that my then husband's mind was crumbling... indeed he had a major psychotic personality disorder and was eventually permanently detained in a secure unit.
The same lady told me my ds, who was still at school, would have many cups of achievement in a professional career that involved a white coat.. Correct again.
Definitely no clues came from me, I didnt speak.

No, sorry, I wouldn't believe a word that a so called Psychic told me.I think they are very adept at 'reading' people, and a few lucky guesses.
