Tbf all these singers only sang what we all thought when we were young. I think we probably all presumed it wouldn't be much fun getting old grin and back in the day we probably would have agreed with them! Nowadays 60 is classed as middle aged and not particularly old, thank goodness.

Stansgran Yeats was 26 when he wrote the poem. It was written for Maud Gonne who he loved but who regarded him as just a friend. It is sad, but so many of his poems are- I love "An Irish airman forsees his own Death"

Going off thread a bit, I annoy my friends and family by frequently saying 'I want that at my funeral'. Big groan and my DD threatens to edit the list of both pop and classical music that I have requested.

However I would like to come in feet first to Abba 'Dancing Queen', go out to their 'Thank You For The Music' and 'Hey Jude' and 'American Pie' somewhere in between. Plus lots of classical favourites.

One late friend's wife chose at his funeral their first record they had bought together when they were 16. It was Cliff Richard The Young Ones. When it got to the bit 'darling one day we'll teach the young ones of our own' we were all in bits - especially their three daughters.

Forget Desert Island Discs - eight is just not enough! But I did particularly enjoy Theresa May and Hugh Bonneville on that programme.

Anyone else have firm ideas for 'funeral music'? Some of my friends think I am odd enjoying thinking about this! Another friend said there was so much music they would all have to bring sandwiches and thermos flasks to my funeral.

"Hope I die before I get old." They didn't. Not all of them.

The Travelling Wilburys, My Back Pages Is positive, with the chorus
'I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now'!
